    Default Timber

I acquired a log a few years back and I always thought that it was Mackay cedar, I did sight the tree and it looked like Mackay Cedar. Until recently I got it milled and it doesn't look like normal cedar with the red edge. Does anyone have any thoughts on this species, Cheers.

Yes quite agree Wood collector, someone might have ideas of turning into furniture.
Sorry can't help identify the timber but that log was a nice find.

How sure are you that it looked like Mackay Cedar? Reason I ask is that if it had the right leaves and bark well... Color can be heavily influenced by a whole heap of factors. If you were quite confident in your tree ID, then I'd not be letting "wrong" color throw you off.

Having said that I'd lean towards calling it rose alder based on three of those pictures.

The timber looks an awful lot like Yellow Poinciana (Peltophorum dubium) - which also happens to have bi-pinnate leaves and rough bark (on older trees) - and although not a native, it's grown a lot around Mackay.
