Default Cure for sticker stain in silky oak?

    Hi Team,
after sanding smooth a beautiful silky oak slab I found sticker stain on top and bottom.
Is there a bleach that will remove it? Do I keep sanding and hope I can remove it all?

    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Phil

I would say that they will not sand out from past experience, the blue or black rot goes in deep.
I have decreased or changed stains with I think it was phosphoric acid but I could be wrong.

Definitely not phosphoric acid. There is an acid to use for stain reduction/removal, can't remember the name now. It comes in a dry granular form and is sold for removing tannin and rust stains from concrete. Don't mix it up too strong or leave it on too long as you will end up staining the timber yellow.

Just did a search on this BB as I thought I remembered answering a similar question a while back, it's oxalic acid you need. There are some proprietry timber cleaning products available also which may help, I've got a feeling they're a mixture of detergents and oxalic acid.

    Thanks Mick and Glenn.

I'm still trying to find straight oxalic acid but I've been put on to a ship's chandler as it used for de-sliming boats.

I've already tried a free sample of Dekswood wood cleaner which has a high percentage of oxalic acid in it but it's had no effect at all. Looks like you get what you pay for.

When I get some results I'll update the post.

Try your local pharmacy - they may be able to buy it in for you. You will probably have to buy 500G or thereabouts.
It is used in a 10% solution - Be careful, wear gloves etc
