    Question Timber for Firearms Display

Due to my current isolation due to fly in - fly out work commitments I'm unable to source in the city (Perth), and the internet thingy doesn't quite answer what I'm sourcing - a timber to use as a mounting for the following firearms:
    • Lee Enfield SMLE MK 3,
    • Webley Revolver MK VI
The firearms will be a static display in my study, along with other militaria collectables. I want to do the weapons justice, but, not detract from them. I thought of Jarrah.

It is intended to be just a flat piece, not shadow boxed or framed, with the weapon mounted accordingly with a mild steel data plate done in gun metal blue.

Has anyone done this before and found a timber appropriate to what I'm searching for, or direct me to some timber that would be suitable.

Although Im not a big fan of dark timber jarrah would probably be a good choice. It adds a little class to mounted objects.
Easy to find too. Most salvage places have heaps of it and hardware suppliers do too.
I dont think a highly figured plank would be a good idea as it would detract from the guns.
I take it they are decommissioned.

^ It is a shame, but, yes they are deactivated.

I agree, any timber with 'character' would detract, although, I did see some Mystique and thought that it was a fantastic wood but way, way too much character.
