    Default Timber ID please.

OK, SWMBO and I had a small road trip today to take in the sights of Old Bar and its environs.
After lunch we just happened upon a shed full of sawn timber on a farming property on the Manning River. I had read via the Forum that dustydrifter had some tulip oak he was selling.
Well I didn't get any tulip oak but did pick up a little of this lovely timber in apprx 6" X 1".
None of us knew what it was, except for the guess that it might be NSW rosewood.
It doesn't quite look it to me as the grain is a little too pronounced.
If you have any idea, your feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    SG

It has the same consistency as rosewood and approx the same weight as far as we can tell - so probably a similar density.
    Hope this helps

it's got quilting just like maple, but the colour is like myrtle. The grain has me stumped though, myrtle and maple don't have such obvious grain lines as that, in my short experience of mayple and myrtle (and feel free to prove me wrong. If I had to, I'd go more to myrtle than maple....

    Thumbs up

I'm prepared to stick may neck out and say "no" to Rosewood.

The maple/ myrtle conundrum is more difficult.

Could be a species that is no longer growing in that area, or is rare in that area. Just wouldn't know what.

    Thanks everyone for the input.
The timber was stacked with some Tulip Oak, NSW Rosewood, Australian Red Cedar and some silky oak.
Three of these are local but the Tulip Oak is from the north of Qld I think.
No one present knew what my timber was as they were selling on behalf of a third party.
I am happy to go with Tas Myrtle, but there seems some doubt even about this because of the grain.
I don't know the timber myself and was hoping for a definitive answer. As with many timbers, variations can be vexing can't they?
