    Default Timber ID please

A friend has asked me to make a table top similar to the one in the photo attached. They just got it off of google so i'm trying to see what species might be similar matches for me to try and source. Any ideas?

    Hi,

Tasmanian Blackwood I believe. If you had used a place of residence instead of just "Australia" I probably could have told you where to go to get it

Looks to one of the many varied species that is passed off as Tassie Oak most likely one of the stringy barks

I was thinking stringy bark too. Thanks. Located in South Australia. The worst state for acquiring timber it seems.

It also looks a little like the Australian Cypress. You should be able to see some of that around to check it against. Try having a look at Carbatec out on Magill Road. They have quite a bit of Australian timber, although in smaller pieces, but it could still help for identification. And yes, I agree, SA has a dearth of decent timbers. I spent a couple of years in Tassie and I still drool when I think of all of the beautiful timbers they have there.Superfoot

To me it's definitely a Gum. The resin veins are a dead giveaway. Blackwood don't get them. Of course that's not much help coz there's so many Gums. It certainly could be one of the "stringy's"

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. I've been in contact with Philcox Timbers. I hadn't heard of them previously but I'd say they are going to become my regular timber supplier now. Excellent range and the brothers who run it are very approachable.
