    Default Timber identification??

    Hey all,

I’m suspecting that this timber is oak but not 100% sure.
Can I please have your thoughts?
    Cheers Matt

eah it does look a bit like crown cut Tas Oak. Got a pic of the end? That might get a more definite answer.

Could be Tas oak but may be meranti. Kind of hard to tell just from a photo.

To me, that looks like a glued up panel of fence palings from different species. I've seen a few of them in my time

It being from Sydney they are probably just good ole Norfcoast Hardwood (which means whatever was going on the day). Pale species could be Tallow Wood, Blackbutt and others that I'm never to sure about. The middle two (finer grain) could even be bleached out Box. There may be some Mountain Ash in there (isn't that one of the three species regards as Tas Oak?).

I'm not sure about the colour balance in the photo either - looks a little off - photographed in the shade or summink. A pic in full sunlight will give a better indication.
