    Default Timber identification assistance please!

Hi, anyone know what sort of timber this is? I need to get something very close in colour for a job that I'm doing. It's in an elderly lady's place so from that, and the style of it, I'm guessing it would have been built anywhere from the 1940's to early 60's.

    Thanks in advance!

From the grain it is possibly Victorian Ash/Tasmanian Oak, but let's else what is suggested. It appears to be pretty heavily varnished so that would disguise the original colour.

Given the edging around it I suspect veneered ply. I have a Parker table of about this vintage that looks somewhat similar that I believe to be teak veneered ply.

The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

Indeed Peter, I should have noticed the edging.

it's book matched, so i'd say veneer but the colour does resemble clear varnished vic ash that's aged so it wouldn't be to hard to tint some clear poly to match the colour and use ash to match the grain. my 2 cents worth

I was thinking coachwood. Usually coachwood has a distinctive smell, although if its varnished the smell mightn't come through.

Looks like teak veneer to me also. Most probably on particle board substrate.

I´d say 60s style and like WW, Teak veneer. Probobly veneered to weetbix. Lots of plantation teak was used for this puirpose in the 60s and it was VERY popular.

Thanks guys, I think you're right about the teak. I reckon i'll use either it or stain tassie oak/vic ash, depending on price as there's not much in it. Thanks again!
