    Question Timber Identification Help

Hi, I purchased this timber about 25+ years ago for a project that didn't eventuate, and it's been sitting in my shed ever since.

From memory I thought/believed it all to be QLD Maple. I pulled it out the other day to check it over and I sanded a bit on the end of some lengths.

The two stacks on the left of the photo do look like QLD Maple, but the stack on the right looks like Meranti to me.

I do recall that they all use to have QM stapmed in the end grain, but that doesn't seem to be visable now.

I know that QLD Maple can vary a lot in colour and grain, and I don't have a great deal of experience with QLD Maple so I would appreciate others opinions on what you think it is.

    Thanks

Qld maple varies quite a bit and the one on the right is well within the range.
    Apologies for unnoticed autocomplete errors.

Agree with Arron. All kinds of figure are common in Qld. Maple, & rowed grain like on the right in your pic is typical of quartered stock. In fact, I'm sitting looking at identical figure on the sides of my Maple desk..

I'd say there's a very high chance that it's all Maple. It's usually one of the nicest woods to work with - enjoy the experience!

Thanks Arron and Ian, I appreciate you opinions.

Unfortunately, I am not planning to make anything with this timber.

I am after others opinions because I have to sell it and I didn't want to say it was something it may not be. After reading your opinions I googled images of QLD Maple and found some images that look almost exactly the same.

So I feel more confident now to say it is all QLD Maple.

Thank you again, I appreciate your time and opinions.

    Regards

    Hi Arron, Ian,
Just thought I would let you know, after cleaning the 25+ years of dust off the timber I found a mill stencil that identified the timber as KD Light Red Meranti :>(
Do you know anywhere online where I can get an idea of the value of this.

Well, I always say id'ing wood from a photo is a mug's game and you've confirmed that for me, again....

Not the foggiest idea of value, I'm afraid, the first job will be to find someone interested. If it had been Maple, you'd probably have a few more takers.....

    Cheers,
    IW
