Is this timber Jarrah?
Could you please help me identify it? Is it Jarrah or is it some other type of timber just stained? Thanks

These look to be very nice pieces and eing no expert believe they could be red cedar or even a veneer I one cas. I don't think they would be Jarrah s th eight wuld be great indication. e

Can you post some closeup pics? Can't see enough detail.

What is the providence of the piece?
Is it very heavy, if the piece were made from Jarrah it would be around 50-60% heavier than the most likely alternatives.
some more pictures, including details of how the drawers and case are constructed would help.regards from Alberta, Canada

Thank you very much everyone It was being sold as Jarrah. Didn't end up buying it as it was too heavy and couldn't arrange for a mover at short notice. It was on the 2nd floor without an elevator.

I can't view the photos where I am at the moment, but i could have been sold as Pacific Jarrah - looks similar in terms of colour, but different density and comes from South America.
There's a bit of a barney about the naming at present:
A tree by any other name... - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
... by "at present", I meant that the issue is still ongoing but unresolved.

talking of jarrah ...
I have just for the first time used jarrah in a furniture context, building a wrap-around benchtop for my new
walk-in pantry.
One thing that struck me as very odd is the way it behaves with pva. I variously found that the pva almost
pulled back off the surface in places, a bit like water on an oily surface. Not a problem, brushing over it again
a couple of times made it stick.
What really had me wondering though is the squeeze-out. Normally it's not a problem to clean up accessible squeeze-out
with a moist rag - but on these jarrah planks it seems to go off at twice the normal speed, and it really doesn't want
to let go of the surface. I had another glue up with birch ply with the same glue later on today, and that cleaned up
without any problem.
Just curious: had anyone else seen odd behaviour with Jarrah and pva glue? (Selley's exterior pva is what I use)
