    Default Timber for Katana Dansu

I have just drawn up the plans for a Katana Dansu (Sword Chest) yesterday I wish to build. Not sure what to make it from.

The Japanese used special timber which doesn't absorb moisture to protect the swords from rusting.

Would cedar be my best bet? or is the Australian Cedar is different as discussed in a post about humididores?
On a budget looking for cheap functional options. I don't have a thicknesser to dress timber.

Advice on what to use and where to get it cheap!

I'm not all that familiar with swords etc, but a little googling seemed to suggest that paulownia (kiri?) is one of the traditional woods used for this purpose. It's plantation grown in Australia, so it's pretty cheap and readily available. It's very light and somewhat bland, but hey.. if it's authentic...

Any place you know in Eastern Melbourne who would be able to supply various sizes dressed? Will google it but always better to have a recommendation!

Can't help you further sorry, I wouldn't know where to begin in Melbourne. I'd recommend searching this "Timber" forum for threads with the words Melbourne, Melb or Victoria in the title.
