Timber Mills around Coffs to Moree??
A driving job ahead of us this week will go up the NSW coast from Sydney to Coffs and then across to Moree and return. For the Moree to Coffs return leg we will have an empty small truck so we can bring some timber back to Coffs (which can be picked up in a couple of weeks when we return with a trailer).
So just wondering if anyone has some recommendations on some mills that might be worthwhile? Or indeed any mills on the coast between Sydney and Tweed Heads (which is where the second trip with trailer will cover).
Species not particularly important, but not looking necessarily for just "construction grade" hardwoods. Something with some character like maybe Cypress, Forest Red Gum, or whatever might be out there.

"On the road again......" can you hear Willy Nelson?
Brett I just looked up the phone book for this area North West Slopes and Planes (it covers out to Moree Inverell Narrabri gunnedah) there are only 2 mills listed and they are both in Tamworth. One is Pilliga Natural Timbers, selling Iron Bark as well as Cypress Pine. They have a web site... www.pilliga natural timbers.com.au
I have no affiliation with this company. I have bought some green Iron bark from them for some structural jobs. The other is Taminda Timbers who sell green Hardwood from private blocks of forest. They mainly supply the landscaping industry. No web site for them.
Many moons ago there was quite a few Cypress mills in a few towns but sadly they have closed up. The coast used to be awash with small mills but a lot of them have gone as well. Happy hunting.Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

Boutique Timbers is 16kms off the Pacific Highway, west of Telegraph Point.
Just call Mal on 65858296 or 0416097827 if you want to visit to make sure he's not in town
I may be around, but going to Sydney Wednesday. Mal would be happy to see you and has stacks of timber.

Yes, I think fletty has probably already contacted Mal. We will certainly be calling in there.
Thanks Rod. Seems odd that there are so few mills adjacent to the Pillaga. As far as I know there is a Cypress guy next door to Mal. I'm a fan of Cypress - it machines beautifully - just don't nail it unless it's green (or pre-drilled).

Did Coffs Harbour to Port Macquarie last week and passed by Telegraph Point no less than 8 times over 5 days. I thought about dropping into Mal/Greg's place, but as I was flying did not have any spare luggage allowance for timber. If I was driving and had a trailer, Mal/Greg would be getting my custom.
That stated, I did drop into Aquafern Mill about 5 klm north of Macksville on the Pacific Highway to see what they had. They only mill Blackbutt and to a lesser extent Tallowood.
The prices quoted for a 200mm x 50mm x 2400mm sleeper was $16 and $20 for a 200mm x 75mm x 2400mm sleeper. Nothing special, but I am sure there were gems in the timber pile especially if you have the time/space to dry them.
Contact Office Manager Margaret Cockburn 02 65693111. They do pallet wood for CHEP and other sizes.
As usual, I have no connection to this mill.
