    Default Timber supplier in Brisbane

You may already know about this bloke but thought I'd post just in case. I hope I'm within the rules. I'm not affiliated in any way.

I'm probably like a lot of guys on this forum, I'm an IT guy who's new to wooodwork and my funds are an allocation from an already stretched family budget. Finding decent timber at good prices is therefore important. I've got my bandsaw, jointer and thicknesser so I can mill rough sawn and I don't want to be spend time making projects in radiata from big hardware.

I found this bloke on Gumtree by searching for amoora. He's a furniture maker that has amassed quite a volume of timber over the years and is now making a concerted effort to sell it off. He has a chook shed full of really impressive timber and as far as I can tell his prices are really good. Far better than the prices of the left over lazarides stock at carbatec. Apparently he has even more timber at remote location.

His name is Wayne Crotty "Wayneswood" and he's at sheldon (0407281535). His flyer says he has black bean, silver silkwood, maple, cedar, amoora, white beech, quila, rosewood and more. He's a good bloke who was more than happy to spend time educating me and he knows his timber, he does species identification for the forestry department. Definitely worth a look.

So i was talking to a guy I met today out and about in Brisbane and it turns out to be Wayne. He told me about his timber collection, which sounds quite large and varied. He also seems very knowledgeable all things woodworking and keen to pass it on. I'll be checking out what he's got as soon as I get the chance. I've not had much success accessing cabinet timbers in the last few years. Seems there's not a lot of hobbyist level supply in the greater Brisbane region. Or I'm just not good at finding it.

Hi Meldge, I've got his card at home but I'm away overseas for another 3 weeks. I'll pass it on once back.
