    Question Wooden Spokes

I want to relace the wooden spokes for a vintage car I am restoring. I wanted to use Sydney Blue Gum ( Euc Saligna ) for them but was told it was not suitable. Does anybody have any knowledge of this subject and what timbers would be suitable.
Have you any info or parts on a 1927 Willys Overland 6 Model 93

You need a long grain timber such as
    hickory (imported)
    spotted gum should be ideal
    red ironbark

    Thumbs up

    Purple heart makes great spokes.
Mate of mine used Tas. Oak.
Seen them done with Blacbutt and Flooded Gum.

Hickory was the wood of choice for wheel spokes and tool handles and I would suspect the original spokes would have been hickory. I think there is a place in Brisbane that imports it for axe handles mostly. Try a google for hickory axe handles and see if you get lucky. Spotted gum would be my pick of the oz woods and is easy to source at most timber retailers.

The other super timber, similar to spotty, but now effectively non-existant is WA tuart but that is not going to help you much in NSW.
