Woodworld.com.au ......Has anyone used them ?
Since Lazarides Timber closed down at the end of 2014, I've been looking for an alternative South East Queensland supplier for furniture grade timber - for both Australian species, and occasionally some imported species.
Recently, I've come across the web site for WoodWorld ---- http://www.woodworld.com.au/
They're located at West Burleigh on the Gold Coast.
Does anyone have any experience with buying timber from this supplier ?
Thanks,
RoyGManufacturer of the Finest Quality Off-Cuts.

I haven't, but the fact that they claim to stock King Billy Pine and Queensland Maple is enough to make me drive down there...

It's a much smaller operation than Lazarides. Run by one of the guys from the former Teak and Fancy timbers. I've had a look in his shed but not bought anything. Mal has quite a bit of exotic stuff in stock and apparently the contacts to get more. I don't buy enough timber retail to know how his prices compare. I was looking for teak but the price made my eyes water.

Have you tried Watt's Wood in Salisbury?

Thanks for the tip on Woodworld. Wood And You at Coopers Plains have a fair selection as well. It must be a tough gig being select timber retailer and Watts Wood do have an extensive range of everything including pre finished samples so you can see what it will look like.............. and again at eye watering prices.

So heres a question for y'all...
What passes as an eye watering price down that way? Just curious is all.

John, most of what I build is made from salvaged or recycled stuff so anything retail is likely to eye watering for me.
There was no teak in stock as apparently there is not much call for it these days since the boat building industry on the GC is not doing very well. Mal was talking about quality Burmese Teak which is probably not what I was looking for, I was thinking maybe cheap Indonesian plantation teak like you used to see in Bunnies furniture might be easy to get.
I may have had wax in my ears but I think I heard $50k cube. Does that sound right, maybe I heard wrong? Since there were no boards in stock, I couldn't check out boards to make the project I had in mind, but at that price it was unlikely to be cost effective for me.
There was some Australian I think White Ash (? looked a bit like Crows Ash) in stock that he had just sold for a similar price and it was all being shipped to Vietnam to be used for a yacht fit out there.
Cheers, Franklin

Thanks for the Wood 'N You suggestion - found their web site at http://www.woodnyou.com/. They have a price list on the web site, but it's dated May 2013, so it's probably out of date. Still, worth a try next time I have to venture down to the big smoke.
I'm off to the Gold Coast later this week, so will have a look at Woodworld while I'm there - although I won't have the trailer this week, so no buying anything this trip.

How much are you after Roy? I have around 8no 50mm slabs of Crows Ash (Aus Teak), 0.6-1.2m wide x 2.1m long. Won't be back until Nov though.

Thanks for the offer, but ..... What I need is some Mahogany to use to build two reproduction chairs to replace two (out of a set of six) that were lost in the last big floods in Brisbane. The table and four of the chairs were saved as they were upstairs and had little water damage. They just needed drying-out, re-gluing,and re-finishing. Unfortunately two of the chairs out of the set were in a storeroom downstairs, and were completely submerged for two days. The "volunteer army" helped massively with the clean-up after the flood, but unfortunately as a result of receiving minimal guidance from the home owner, the volunteer army threw out the two wet chairs.
Thanks anyway...
