So long as they continue to pollute the world through motor sport I won't be buying their products. We threw them out of Canberra because of how they treated the national capital.

That is a pretty narrow minded view. The car race was going to happen regardless of who was the sponsor.
The race wasn't staged in Canberra because of GMC.

At first look it looked just like the old website, just updated.
I did like a few of the new ideas, the Sawcam for cross cut saws was interesting, and definitely like the 18V tools with interchangeable batteries (like Ryobi+one) Would hope that the tool price+battery would be competitive.
If they come back to Aust I will certainly be willing to look at their stuff again.

Speak for your self we, didn't all throw them out of Canberra, it was only a few wingers and a push biking senior minister that
dropped us off the map.
Horse racing may be the sport of kings, but motor racing the King of sports.

Bounty Hunter
Just to return to the original thread for a moment, I spotted this site a few weeks ago myself soon after the Australian GMC site disappeared. Clearly they have re-established themselves in pommie land.
Without knowing the exact details, and I am sure someone will be able to help here, I suspect they are declared bankrupt in Australia and will not be able to re-open for business for at least 7 years. I think that is the time frame (or it may be 5 years).
I am sympathetic to them for creating a niche in the market and the also because of the means of their demise.
My understanding is they made the cardinal sin of putting too many eggs in one basket in that a huge segment of their market relied on Bunnings. I don't know if there was a falling out, but Bunnings decided to withdraw the GMC products and introduce their own brand Ozito.
Their 24 month guarantee was clearly too generous also and was open to abuse.
GMC were clearly sailing very close to the wind anyway and Bunnings action booted them straight over the precipice. The cynic in me might suggest that Bunnings were aware of the possibilities and it certainly opened an opportunity for their own Ozito brand.
I mention all this because I found many of their tools to be very good value albeit a little agricultural and not the best ever quality. It was the lower end of the market after all. They were very innovative in that they marketed products nobody else was making.
Sorry, I am in danger of highjacking the thread myself here.
The original reason I was looking at GMC was I was chasing a ball bearing and spring that escaped from my GMC biscuit jointer. I have not worked out yet whether the pommie version is the same.
Finally, I don't expect to see GMC in Oz for quite a while, if ever.

GMC in the UK is a funny one. I pick up the odd UK woodworking mag and find that they are still advertising a lot of the Triton stuff, such as spindle sanders etc. that are no longer available here, and seem to have what appear to be a few new products as well. Odd.

Hey,
I am looking at buying a GMC biscuit joiner- Their is a place in Victoria that sells them online.
Good brand or since they've gone bankrupt here in Aust should I steer clear of them?
Cheers

You will probably buy at a good price, but spares are an issue. Whereas the Triton side of the operation has been taken over (Carbatec, I think) and spares will presumeably be readily available, that is nor the case with the GMC brand. Be prepared to treat as a thow away if it goes wrong. I doubt that warranty exists either. Buy with those things in mind and pay accordingly.
Having said that I bought a number of GMC items when Graysonline cleared out liquidation stock. My biscuit jointer was one of them (the only one to suffer a problem incidentally) and from memory I paid in the region of $60. Much of that stock was bought by dealers for resale. But "caveat emptor" (let the buyer beware!)
