First Coffee Table
Hi dont be too hard, I know I haven't done anything too clever, but its mine. Made from recycled Jarrah floor boards. I made alot of mistakes on the way, but am pleased with the finished item.

Gday Jerry & welcome
To add pic/s when putting up a post, look further down the page & click on "Manage Attachments". Click "Browse" & find the image on your computer to upload (See note below). Browse for more files, up to 5, then click "Upload".
When the files show as uploaded, close this small window then click "Submit new thread". Voila, your post will be up with thumbnails of the images, viewers can click on them for the full image.
Note: See this thread for help reducing images to under 100Kb.
Rather than put up another post to lodge your images, you can edit your opening post & follow the above to add the pics.

Thanks Gags, I saw a coffee table in a store and did a bit of a copy. I had to have a table with draws in it, as SWMBO does not like the tv remotes hanging around. Every time you try and change channels, the remove is back by the tv. I put first coffee table, but really apart from a picture frame, its the first item I have made. (excluding a bit of bedroom wardrobe shelving).

Very nice work
What timber is it?
Not a bad setup for someone who hasn't done much

Thanks BPJ I used old Jarrah Floor boards, stuck them all together. Then it was glued screwed and dowelled. I would have liked a finger joint on the top corners, but did not think I could cut accurately and also because its tongue and groove I though peices might fall out. I will try a bit more woodwork in my next project.

Well I have always built pergolas, shelving and skirting boards etc. I have just downloaded a jig to do finger joints, this is my next project, then a box I think.

Nice work but 2 points I'd like to make, hope you don't get offended.....
a) It would look better on timber legs, not on milk crates
b) I think it would be good enough to go inside the house. It just doesn't seem right in a garage.
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

I think it looks pretty good considering you were using floor boards. They can be so limiting.
The only thing I would have done different is to try and find a better match for the drawer fronts when gluing them up. The boards you used are significantly different and stand out somewhat. A little time spent on matching the boards can make the finished product look so much better.
The other thing you can do is thicken up the edges by gluing up another piece to the edge. The best way is to cut the board you want to use on the edge into two pieces. That way you get the same piece of wood and hopefully a good match that won't be too noticeable.
Don't get me wrong, I've worked with floorboards before and I know that what I have suggested is not always possible.
Overall, I think you did well.

Cheers Gumby, thanks for the tips. But being a Yorkshire Man I just can't go past free milk crates.
Boban I know what you mean by thickening the edge but in this instant I saw this table in a large furniture store and liked the look of the table so I copied it. Thanks for the positive comments.
Now I have to sand down the old coffee table and refinish it, then its hand over to the Daughter.
Cheers Jerry
