What does "Dual Mode" mean?
Hi
I am very new to wood working. I have bought a second hand Triton 2400w Dual Mode router which i pick up on the weekend.
Might sound stupid but what is it referring to when it says "Dual Mode"?
Is it the size of the bits it can take 1/4" & 1/2"?
Anyway will pick it up on the weekend...looks like it also comes with a biscuit joiner ..bonus!
Ta

I believe it means the router can be used in a router table or out of a table in “freehand” mode

I think it means it can be used as a plunge or fixed router

My understanding is that dual mode means that it can be plunged freehand by disengaging the rack and pinion, or it can be wound up & down using the side handle when the rack is engaged.
Early models used a twist handle to engage/disengage, later ones use a push button to perform this function. See below

What Treecycle says.
I have the big 2.4kW and on the extremely rare occaision I use it outside of the table I use the traditional free plunge mode; but when in the router table the plunge spring gets pulled out and the wind up/down rack and pinion comes into play.Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.
