Carba-Tec exclusive distributor of Triton from Jan 2010
Carba-Tec Pty Ltd, Australia's leading supplier of quality woodworking tools and machinery, is pleased to announce that it has been appointed to be the exclusive distributor of Triton® Power Tools and Accessories in Australia and New Zealand effective January 1, 2010.
We are well acquainted with Triton’s singular reputation both here and abroad, having seen it spring from an Aussie invention into a world-renowned range of power tools and accessories. The Triton brand is one of the most recognised icons in the local woodworking and DIY industry and we are excited about incorporating it into our own range of tools and equipment.
We’re also aware that there is a great deal demand for the product. So to answer some of your questions in advance, here’s a brief summary of our current status and an overview of our plans to re-launch Triton in Australia and New Zealand.
Stock Availability
At this point, none of the Carba-Tec stores in Australia have stock of Triton tools, however we have placed orders and we expect delivery between late February and early April 2010. Early in 2010 we’ll be posting our core Triton range on our website at www.carbatec.com.au where it will be available for secure shopping and pre-ordering. We will fill any pre-orders as soon as stock becomes available.
We will also be equipping all of our Carba-Tec stores with Triton in-store displays and our sales staff will be on hand to provide you sound, personal service.
Core Range
The following products will comprise our core Triton product range.
- Work centre 2000
- Work centre Dust bag
- Bevel Ripping Guide
- Chassis Upgrade and Height Winders
- Router Table
- Router Stand
- Finger Joiner
- Biscuit Joiner
- Jigsaw Kit
- 3-1/4HP Router
- 3-1/4HP 235mm Power Saw
We will be adding additional products to the range in due course.
Spare Parts and Service
We have a number of spare parts on order for Triton power tools and for the Triton Workcentre / Router Table. Selected spare parts should be available by mid to late January 2010 and there will be follow-up shipments coming soon after the initial one.
We will be unable to support any warranty claims for goods sold prior to January 1, 2010, nor will we be able to honour warranty claims for goods not purchased through Carba-Tec stores. We will, however, be happy to assist you in identifying your problem and will supply any spare parts necessary to rectify the problem.
Dealers and Additional Support
We also plan to distribute the product through selected independent retailers throughout Australia and New Zealand. The details of this arrangement are still being worked out and we will not be able to provide a list of approved dealers until February to March 2010.
Holiday Closing Dates
Please note that Carba-Tec Brisbane (distribution centre for the Carba-Tec group) will be closing for Christmas and New Years from 2pm (EST) on December 24 until re-opening at 8am (EST) on January 4, 2010. Please feel free to contact us on or after the 4th January 2010 with any queries you may have about Triton. We will also be supplying certain spare parts to the public and to other Carba-Tec stores from the 4th.
Other Carba-Tec stores will be open certain days during the post-Christmas and pre-New Years period. To confirm your local store’s opening and closing dates, please ring or check your local Carba-Tec store’s web page on our website at www.carbatec.com.au. Opening and closing dates have been posted on each store’s home page.
We have also set up a dedicated email address that will allow you to direct your enquiry to the appropriate Triton support department. Please feel free to email your enquiries to [email protected] so we can attend to your needs.
Looking Forward to Triton in 2010!
The Triton brand has been built on the quality of its products and the constant support of its owners and users around the globe. We certainly hope that this understanding and support will continue with our new venture and that the prospect of seeing Triton back on top - where it belongs - is as exciting to you as it is to us.
We wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas and New Year Season.

Sounds great though I rang the brisbane store about this yesterday lunch time and got a "We have no idea what is happening with Triton".
Good that the brand is back up and running.

Main reason for the lack of knowledge is the fact that the deal was not done until a couple of weeks ago, and officially, we don't become distributors until 1st Jan 2010.
We have tried to keep it under wraps to avoid a flood of enquiries for goods we could not supply, and we need time to educate our staff on all things orange. The cat was let out of the bag a tad early due to the inclusion of Carba-Tec stores on the Triton Tools | Home site, distributor listing.
Try again after the 'official' date....and it should be a different story.

Thanks Dohboy. I spoke to Brisbane head office yesterday and they were very helpful. I wasn't meaning to criticise Carba-tec, more highlight the rapidly changing nature of this, and with probably more than a hint of frustration at the way Oz has been treated with respect to Triton.
I am glad that my (mostly!) beloved orange tools will have support, and the opportunity to even grow a little in number.
I actually think having Carbatec as a supplier is much better for the likes of us than Bunnings. Time will tell though.
Cheers,

They have excluded the 1400W router. I hope they pick it up sooner rather than later.

So what's the go on spares you only list
3-1/4HP Router
3-1/4HP 235mm Power Saw
on the powered tools side of things.
Are you having spares for all the previous range of Triton powered tools?Back To Car Building & All The Sawdust.

Triton Spare Parts?
Great News, I need a few parts, someone may already have some they could sell me.
I'm chasing a spare riving knife, the one that is used on the Triton compact saw table, to hold the guard in place and is easily removable. I think the other workcenter etc uses the same part or it could be bigger I'm not sure.
Please let me know if anyone has one, some people don't even use them so I'm hoping to find an old one lying around. The bayonet adapter piece for the DE could come in handy as well. It mounts to the top of the guard and accepts normal size vac hose.

As we move forward, and the owners of the Triton brand re-negotiate with the former maufacturers, we MAY be able to source some spares for older Triton products. It all depends on if they still make the product or carry spares. My suggestion is to contact our spare parts department in the new year. They have a full set of parts breakdowns, and can at least get the ball rolling.
The Aussie made product is not a problem. The manufacturers have assured us that plenty of parts are available, and we are busy working out what parts, and how we want to buy them (mixed packs vs. bulk packs etc etc). Unfortunately, most of the MK3 gear has been either used up, or sold off, so I dont like our chances with that model (although it hasn't been made for 13+ years!).

I notice there is only one model router listed???
Also, given we all know what the previous rrp was, and that there was previous competition between retailers, I will be curious to know how much of a mark up carbatec adds. I will be interested to see how much the routers are listed for. I am pessimistically predicting they will be much more expensive than they used to be.

Competition...yes. There certainly was competition, and look where it got us, and what effect it had on the Triton brand.
Firstly...YES we will include the MOF in the range. This should happen during early/mid 2010.
Secondly price.... for those who are pessimistic, and are still bold enough to be predicting our 2010 price points, your hired! I can tell you its a daunting task predicting the US vs AUS dollar crashes, interest rates and general global financial climate fluctuations. We are still working our way through nearly 10,000 product lines, and a 300+ page catalog, trying to calculate our offer to you for 2010.
The good news is....a NEW model TRA001 will be offered (with improvements and inclusions never seen before here in Australia), and the RRP is planned to be around the same, if not LOWER then it was. Same spec, same factory, better features, better offer.
A little optimism people! I thought you would be happy to see the product with a future, rather then just slipping into your memory.

I saw the Carba-Tec online catalogue today and read about the Triton information. Yes I am happy that Triton is back on the Market.
People are always going to be concern with price. That is just something we do. If someone is not happy with paying x amount then they will go somewhere else, or get something else.
I want a part. Have been thinking for quite some time. Will be thinking for a little bit longer.

I think John G comment about competition was less about Triton vs other brands and more about shop A vs Shop B.
I certainly hope it works, and that Carbatec get a broader range of dealers to make it more accesible to the "general population"

True. I am glad that carbatec will be stocking triton. I am glad that anyone will be stocking triton. My question about price is because I am indeed waiting to get a TRA001.
My earlier point about competition is that I am always wary of "exclusive" distributors, and the impact it has on consumer choice. e.g. it is easy for bunnings to offer a 10% undercut when 50% of their products are their own brand (think ozito).
