News from Triton
Its a little over 6 months since Kincrome were appointed exclusive distributors in Australia and New Zealand for all Triton products.
I thought it would be of some interest to the readers and members of this forum to give a (hopefully not too overtly commercial) run down of what Triton has been up to and what the future holds.
The new owners of Triton (they bought Triton from the official receivers) is a family business with values that extend to keeping Triton as a niche manufacturer of Woodworking Tools with a point of difference. The business, Powerbox International, is based in Yeoville in Somerset and is a little bigger than Triton was in its heyday and had some close ties to Triton before the business went into receivership.
After attending one of the worlds premier Tool Exhibitions in Cologne in March it was clear to see that Powerbox are serious about the future of Triton and want the world to know what a good brand it is. They have been very successful in securing distribution of the brand in Canada, the USA, South Africa, The U.K. and of course Australia. Other markets will follow.
The Triton range is still very similar with the "sheet metal" products such as Workcentre, Router Table and the range of accessories being made to a very high standard in Melbourne. The 3 Routers and the 9 1/4 inch saw being made in Taiwan and the Superjaws and Multistand being made in China. We are in a lucky position where Powerbox are very interested in our opinion about their future because we still exude the Triton DNA.
Our opinions are of course based on your opinions and ideas and as in the days of old we are very interested in the feedback we get from you. They take our comments very seriously.
I am hoping as you read this you are beginning to see the Triton Orange appear in your local hardware store. Distribution is increasing at a great rate and of course the Carba-Tec store in your capital city is a great point of distribution. As this year progresses you will see a small range of benchtop machines on offer including a planer-thicknesser, double doweller (ideal for chairs and tables), a quality sharpening system to rival the worlds best and a bobbin sander. We are having Australian spec machines tested at the moment to ensure they meet the rigorous standards that the very critical Triton community expect. There are 3 other products in the wings just finishing prototyping as I write this.
Of the questions I am asked, the subject of spare parts seems to be raised time and time again. We are working hard on increasing our stock of parts. It has been a longer journey than we had hoped but we are adding about 50 new parts a month to our stock and it will be another 2 or 3 months till we have it completely under control.
Last weekend we attended the first of the Working With Wood Shows in Brisbane. We were knocked out by the level of interest which show-goers showed in our stand. I spent the weekend talking to old friends, new friends and customers and being patted on the back because they were just pleased to see us. Of course we have to turn this goodwill into sales to make everybodies investment worthwhile, but I have confidence we will. But only if we provide the tools, service and back-up to the standard you expect of us. There are no free lunches in life, and we understand this.....maybe more than anyone else. We are keen to leave the dark days of GMC in our wake.
I welcome any comments from users and forum members as to where you would like to see Triton. Thanks for taking the time to read this message.

Thank you very much for this. I am very pleased CarbaTech is a selling agent.
If you give woodworkers a fair go, being honest, being true to your guarantees, giving the best quality the price permits, we all must win.

I'm still using my Mk3 and router table. If it continues I'll still be happy, some parts for older models would be nice as spares.

steel cutter blade
Tell me where i can get a new blade for my Triton Steel Cutter in Melbourne and you have won me!
I have a wc2000, dust bag and height winder, router table and stand, 9 1/4 inch saw, tra001, mof001 and guide bushes kit, maxi extension table, bevel ripping guide, 2 superjaws and all available jaw sets, 2 multistands, steel cutter, drill bits, router bits and probably a few others that I cant think of at the moment; a fairly substantial investment in the brand. Naturally I am pleased that things are getting back on track.

Hi Engrain,
Any news on spare parts for the Triton respirator. I find it a good unit but some spares, such as face shields, are hard to find.
Cheers

I keep wanting to find a reason to ditch my old Mk 3 Triton in favour of a cast iron table saw with a quiet induction motor.
However, the old girl keeps doing what I want it to do and so it becomes impossible to discard.
I wish that it was quieter, of course, but noise is what having a circular saw as the power source results in.
Other than that it works fine. I have just added a home made feather board held in place with magswitches and that has added another dimension of safety and accuracy to my work. Those magswitches are great. I should have done that a while ago. It was always too clumsy to try to clamp featherboards to the Tritons.
Wouldn't it be great to be able to drop in induction motor driven saws to replace the old noisy circular saws to give these old girls a new lease of life?

Very interesting news Endgrain.
So where does Bairnsdale Electrics who sell Triton through Ebay come in all this ? Do they buy from you ?
I only ask because I have bought a 12" SCMS from them and the first one turned up with damaged packaging, a broken casting and didn't work. Sent it back and a replacement one turned up which works but again the packaging is broken inside the box and a couple of bits of plastic are broken on the saw.
They offered a 100% refund and a pick-up last monday but to cut a long story short they have jacked up because I mentioned that I did't think it was the fault of the transport company (not twice in a row) and now we are locked in a Paypal dispute. They told me over the phone that they import them from China, could that be right ?
By the way I am a big fan of Triton, use the jaws every day and the palm ROS.

Triton respirator/router
Hi all, great news about the resurrection. I am interested in respirator shield and battery. I'm not sure if the battery is the problem but I can't get it to run any more. So I would like to replace it or have someone fix it. Also I know the shield is going to be impossible to see with eventually.
I have an unusual router plate on my rta300 router table. Which is where I found this thread. I was trying to mount my JOF001 on it and if I clamp it the way understand it needs to be clamped i can't plunge it to it's maximum depth.
so I'll keep searching for the answer. great news about Triton being back and running

Did you ever get a response - private or otherwise.
I find it interesting that all these statements are made and as soon as a difficult question comes up they fade into the woodwork.....
Is Endgrain closer to Bairnsdale Electrics than admitted?........
I was thinking of purchasing some Triton gear from Carbatec, but not sure now.
I swear by my Triton router and not looking forward to the day when it needs parts.
