Reliability Plunge Router TRA001 / MOF001
Hello,
They are very opposite reviews here in Europe about Triton TRA001 and MOF001 routers...
I need an objective point of view concerning issues that some people had with their machines.
So, are they crap piece of rubbish, or are they as other middle range tools not perfect, but reliable.
Thanks for your advices.

Some people seem to have trouble and others don't so I don't know if that is luck or weather it's the way they are treated. I have had an MOF001 for about 10 years and within the first 2 years I had trouble with the speed control so put it in the cupboard for a few years as I had heard that this was common and some failed again after replacing, so thought it wasn't worth fixing. After a few years I decided to bite the bullet and replace the module as a number of people had had success by this time. I replaced it and haven't had a problem since. Some people have failures with mechanical parts but as yet that hasn't been a problem for me. I am very careful the way I treat my tools and never force anything to create excess load. Whenever I use the winder handle to raise or lower the router I always ensure when releasing the orange button that it has engaged fully by wiggling the black handle back and forward slightly before letting go of the black handle. Never try to adjust the height using the fine adjuster without releasing the lock lever. The soft start is not exactly that as it gets to full revs very quickly and the balance of the armature is not perfect although that may have been corrected in later models. If using in a table like I do, make sure the height return spring is removed to reduce the load on the winder gears.
The convenience of being able to adjust the height quickly with a winder and being able to change the bits above the table is something that other brands haven't incorporated yet so this makes it a good machine for my purposes.Dallas

I've had two and would regard them as good.
The first was second hand. I used it well and it played nicely. I ended up replacing the bearings (not a big deal to replace).
The second unit came via luck and a low price, so I grabbed it. This was used under-table with a router plate.
I found a few small irritations
-- the fine dust built up in the switch area,
-- it also built up in the removable caps that fit the spring and legs. This eventually fills and compacts to an extent that it causes lifting problems. Cleaning it out is a PITA.
-- the winder unit fill with dust. Also a PITA to clean. It would be a better unit if these areas had cleaning ports.
-- Lifting was good for under table, but one MUST remember to release the black handle or you will frig up your lifting cogs....
-- My last niggle was that the black handle needed to be quite tight for extended routing operations under-table. I had a few times where it vibrated loose...much to my....annoyance.
Unit was replaced with a porter-carter style model (sold locally as 240v) and an Incra lifter. I found this to be the absolute bees-knees.
I'd say the TRA001 is good for its price and will last a good time, even if you are hard on it.

I’ve had a MOF001 for over 8 years with no problems - touch wood
I have stripped it down once, about a year ago, to blow all the dust out. It’s main use now is in the table but it’s had plenty of use outside when cutting mortises etc.

I love it
I've had my TRA001 for over 15 years- fitted in my bespoke router table. And yes I had trouble's as the earlier correspondents stated but overcame them the same ways.
The only annoying things not previously mentioned was the white plastic worm gear inside the height adjuster. After about 5-8 years of heavy use the plastic wore so much that I replaced it with a metal equivalent from UK. Now I have no trouble.
The second issue I had was collet-slippage with most bits. The bits would rise up out of the collet in an alarming and potentially dangerous way. Changing the collet was an easy fix except that I ruined a number of projects until I bit the bullet. But this problem is NOT the fault of the TRA001 but the diameter of my bits. Shims don't work.
These days I love my Triton and always lock the bit-height with the black lever once my cut is set.dave
nothing is so easy to do as when you figure out the impossible.
