Default Router suggestions for Triton 2000

After retiring and moving to Tasmania from WA 12 months ago I'm starting to unpack some of my toys and I've discovered that I've actually got the Triton router table and accessories as well as the 2000 WorkCentre. I still haven't found everything though, eg winder handle and fingers, etc; they're all packed together somewhere very safe.

I bought the Triton 2000 out of Gumtree just prior to moving to Tassie so I'd not used it.
What I'm wondering is what is the best/most suitable router people have used with the Triton 2000. I'm on a tight budget like everybody else, but more so at present as we're paying rent plus progress payments (having a house built).
There's a brand new Makita 1000W on Gumtree now for $90, but it's a "keep your finger on the trigger constantly" model. So clearly I need to be looking for an on/off model.

Incidentally, I've had to resort to using zip ties to keep the Makita 9" saw powered ON because there's no lock button, but that's not ideal at all. I'd therefore imagine using Velcro/zip tie to keep the router ON button would likewise be unsatisfactory.

    All feedback greatly appreciated.
    Greg.

Unfortunately, the best solution rarely fits into tight budgets!

I have the Triton TRA1 and I think it is the best choice if you can afford one. I know new ones are very expensive, but occasionally a good second hand one comes along. I know that the quality of these varied over time and not everyone likes them. I also like the locking mechanism with this router.

My next choice would be a Makita 3612C. My logic with both of these is that I wanted a lot of power as I was likely to use the Router Table for larger cuts at times and I also wanted variable speed for larger bits.

I suspect the Makita may be more reliable and I have seen them cheaper although not as any "C" models.
If you do not need the power, then the smaller Triton or any other model may be suitable. I would not worry about having to Velcro or cable tie the trigger that is normal for the saw setup and I never had an issue with it. The Triton Table on/off switch works well and is all that you need.

    Good luck with your search.

WA to TAS hey? Unusual move. I just spent the weekend in Hobart. Very nice. I’ll bet you love Tassie.

I have one of the latest model Triton TRA001s and I don’t like it at all. The Makita mentioned above would be a much better choice I reckon.
