Anyone seriously using the template guides
ok I've searched through the archives and I still can't get a grip on whether or not it's worthwhile buying the template guides for the router. (big dude or little boet)
I have to buy some for either my little bosch pof1300 or for the tra001 and I'd prefer to support orange of course.
So is there anyone who recommends the guides for use on the tra001? Or should I just stick with the little Bosch and get on with it?
BTW, here in deepest darkest Africa, there is talk about setting up a Triton club (just thought I'd let you know).Cheers

Good question, something I'm debating myself.
Another question is how far through the table do they protrude , and how far are they in freehand?

i bought em for the winder and i thought the other bits might be handy,,,
its all still in the box under the router table gathering dust & i never used any of it.
i guess if you got a triton router table you might use em i cant on mine. also pretty much for hand held use.
in hindsight i shoulda saved me $49.00 and made up a winderray c
dunno what's more fun, buyin' the tools or usin' em'

I bought it so I can use the router on the Leigh 1600 jig. It takes a reduced collet (8mm) and needs a guide to work. Probably could have got a generic one cheaper but I needed it that weekend so I got the triton pack. Never looked at all the other parts of the pack though .

I use mine from time to time, not every day but when I'm working from a template I find them really helpful.

I have a set. Brand new condition, never used them.

I also have a set 'just in case'. The original info said that the new base unit would take Porter Cable router guides, which are supplied with a lot of router jigs as standard. So far I haven't purchased any yankee style jigs that use them.

I have a full set for the Triton TRA001, bought it in the Hills Clearance Centre for $30, seemed like a good idea at the time. Never used it, seriously or in anger.
Also got one supplied with the PowerCraft router from Aldi, haven't used that one either.
Interesting to see that a $39.95 router was supplied with a template follower, but the $300 odd router wasn't!

I've got a Template Guide Kit for the big machine and in the UK the smaller one comes with a full set of guides and a winder.
I've used the template guide kit on both machines with my Leigh D4 Dovetail Jig. The Variable Guide Bush system used by Leigh (two-part Porter Cable type fitting, but with tapered and adjustable collar) fits to the centralising part of the kit, so that's all I used.
I specifically bought the MOF001 for use on the D4, as I found the bigger machine to be "overkill," and although it came with a different carrier plate than the big router, the Leigh VGB fits the centralising plate, so now I've got a perfect combination.
That said, the guides I bought originally as an add-on kit for the big router (still advertised on the Web Site) and those that came with the MOF001 are all Imperial, not metric, in case that comes into your equation. Might be OK in the US and Canada and used to be our normal measure too, but nowadays I'd have thought that an alternative metric set was appropriate.
I've since bought a 30mm guide (from my UK dealer - part number TG30 over here) for use with my kitchen worktop joint jig - it works well in either machine on the conventional guide-bush carriers. HTH

Do any other kit fit? or do you need the Triton for the guide carriers?
You think they would be metric, being "made" by an Australian company

G'day,
I do use templates quite a lot but never bought the Triton ones because I felt they are too difficult to fit into a router table setup, ie they could only be used in the router...
I use porter-cable type guides from Carbatec and I have made a router plate for the triton to fit. It is very easy to do and best of all I have made my router table top also with the same fitting so I can use these in the table as well.
I find the PC templates quick to insert and remove and you do not need the screw driver. The only annoying thing is if you are doing a lot of work involving changing the guides you are probably better off removing the dust shroud as it slows down changeover.
Kind regards

For the record, I haven't used the Triton template guides. I bought a couple of Milescraft bases which use bog standard Porter Cable guides.
Cheers
