Default Early Triton Mk3 and WCA400

I recently obtained an early MK3 workcentre to clean-up so as to give to my son. Unfortunately, it came with the original cast alloy saw chassis; this was severely cracked and was not repairable. I got hold of a WCA 400 rigid saw chassis and assembled it, as instructed, and fitted a Makita 235mm saw. Then came an unexpected problem - with the saw chassis installed in the workcentre, I could not fit the top because the stiffening bars fouled the top of the new saw chassis. On comparing the original chassis' installed height to the new chassis, the latter was considerably higher. Have I done something wrong as I can't fathom how to rectify the situation. Any and all help or advice would be most appreciated. Many thanks, Ian .

Just now came across the Forum thread - Mk3 upgrade clarification - saw chassis. Nowhere in it does it make mention of the MK3 work top not being able to be fitted because the new chasiss sits higher in the rails than the old cast alloy chassis.

There's been eighty-odd views to my appeal for advice, but as yet, no replies. I really need some help with this and would appreciate whatever advice you might give. Cheers. Ian.

I saw your first post and immediately a reference to the same problem by you 7 years ago in the similar threads section.

I assumed that you fixed it then, hence I saw no need to comment further for a similar problem that you once fixed.

    Hi Peter,

Thank you for your reply. I was able to find a WCA400 way back then. The one that I got seven years ago for my old MK3 fitted without a problem. But I've loaned it to a friend who is using it on his rural property to help with his house renovation at the moment. Hence, I can't compare the two of them. I still had the original manual for the first WCA400 and it's exactly the same of the one I bought recently.
When I offer up the old cast unit (face down) on the bench with the new chassis, the rail slides on the new one are at a higher height to the old one. I unmounted the Makita saw and temporarily installed it in the cast chassis and that sits in the rails at the right height to not foul the tops stiffening bars. So I went back to the "destruction" manual and checked step-by-step again and whoops, I'd missed seating the runner slides at the top of their slot.
Peter they say, "Nothing is fool proof to a sufficiently talented fool" and in my case this is totally correct. It's a worry isn't it?

Many, many thanks for taking the time to reply, I very much appreciate it.

    Cheers,
    Ian.

Ian, it is indeed a worry being a sufficiently talented fool as I'm of the same vintage as you.

I was going to suggest to carefully recheck everything with the manuals and if you ever need any of them they are still kept by the Triton Owners Club in Canberra and available for download.

I myself upgraded to a proper table saw a long time ago, but I knew that they did fit mine when I upgraded the original saw chassis.

BTW if you have trouble aligning the saw this old post of mine may help.

    Peter.

Thanks for the link Peter, I had trouble setting up my own when I changed the chassis. Much appreciate the information - will have a go at it tomorrow as it's not my volunteering day at the local aged care village. Cheers, Ian.
