    Default Triton router

G'day folks,I'm a newby to the forum and would like to know if anyone could help out with information in deciphering mfg/date on motor plate of router.
    Unit is a trj001 100v 1500w(packed in a tra001 box). I suspect it to be 2hp.
From the limited information I've sourced from "the net" it's spose to be same
as tra001,trb001&trc001.But I keep reading these units are the big mothers and
are at least 2.75,3 or 3.25hp. Stuffed if I know, I'm abit confused. Anyhows back to the poser, the mg/date reads as 750 whatisthat.I also have a Triton
tsa001 and out of curiosity wouldn,t mind knowing the mfg/date of this power
saw mfg, date reads 0147.Once again what the..isthat. Appears to be secret
Taiwanese incription. It's probably basic deduction like 750=7/5/2000 & 0147
    =1/4/2007

    Welcome, Cap'n!

The Triton router range is comprised of three machines.

The largest and most powerful is the TRA001, also sold as the TRB001 and TRC001, depending where on the planet you live. 2000W 3¼HP (Review here)

The middle range model is the MOF001 1400W 2¼HP (Review here)

The baby of the range is the JOF001 1010W 1⅓HP (Review here)

Shown, in order from L to R below:

What you've got is definitely not the larger TRA001. I doubt that it's the MOF001 either, but it's easy to tell. On the two mentioned, there is a fine height adjuster knob AND a plunge spring release cap at the rear on the same side. The smallest model does not have the plunge spring cap, just the height adjusting knob at the front.

Hope that helps you identify the model to start with.

    Default Triton router

    Hi Ray,
thanks for the welcome, you'll have to bear with me here. Not only am
I new to the forum, I'm also new to the age of computers. 10 words a minute,
allowing for stuff ups is a bit of a brag. Then there's send buttons etc. Good
thing the younger folk of the family are computer savvy, otherwise I would
never have bought my Triton collection from various sources.Honestly the young bloke leaves me in his wake with type speed.Hope I'm not boring you with idle chitchat.I'm practicing and your on the other end of it.Sorry for goin
on a bit,but I have been known as haveachat by more than a few.How am I
doin so far.Down to tin tacs. The Triton router is a TRJ001 and was for the
Japan market. That is a certainty, although there is no japanese writing everything else indicates that's where it was heading at whatever point in time.
This includes the stamp on the underside of box(Japan).I checked the reviews you
posted and confess I've viewed these before.'The missus has just chipped in, saying 5 words a minute is more my speed. She gets on facebook,I'm not touchin that. Sorry where was I. Ok The weight of the unit is
6.1kg. I confirm this weighed it on kitchen scales for accuracy. The base plate measures 180mm dia. Sounds pretty much the same as the Big Fella so
far.Would you agree? Has all the same functions and wizz bang bits.1 thing different the clear shield wraps all the way round.Factory improvement upgrade I suppose. Which brings us right back to the beginning. The manufacturing date.I've estimated the size of motor at 2hp based on the principal 750w approx. or there abouts = 1hp.I'm exhausted(over stated of course). This has just taken me eons. Obvious I need practice. Later.

Fair enough - the TRA001 was marketed as the TRC001 for Canada, so I guess TRJ001 for Japan makes sense. If it weighs that much it can only be the biggest model - a great machine for table use. The clear dust shrouds are a standard fitment - I removed mine as I found that they could obscure the view when handheld, especially with MDF dust. The discrepancy seems to be in the alleged size of the motor. Originally, they were 2400W. In the UK they were marketed as 2000W because of their on/off switch (rather than a deadman's switch) broke the UK regs. They were always sold as a 3¼HP machine, right from the start. Whether it was designed with a lower output motor for Japan, I simply don't know, but their page here definitely gives the motor size as 1500W - plus the voltage is shown as 100V rather than the usual 220 - 240V in Oz and UK. I'll give a friend of mine a shout - he's in Japan so may have more info.

OK - I've spoken to my friend who confirms that it's definitely the big model, marketed for the Japanese market. It seems that the ratings may have been "downgraded" a little for the Japanese market, due to their voltage and power breaker system. You'll be fine with it if you use a suitable transformer.

I'd check the collets supplied carefully too, because 12mm looks a lot like ½" and 6mm looks a lot like ¼" but - obviously - they're not interchangeable!

Ray what can I say You've made my day-(Poetry/NOT)
Good information, brother. The download from Japan site really hit the spot.
Everything shown is in the box, including the various collet sizes still sealed
in plastic. I failed to mention that this unit is brand new and has never been
used. Was listed as for parts not working, so I took a punt and got it for a song.
Even after purchasing a volt stepdown transformer (at a very reasonable price)
it was a bargain basement deal. Funny how people won't go the extra distance
when things seem a little tricky. I'm glad to hear that it's the large unit with plenty of grunt because I intend to have it setup in the table mostly. I've tested
it plugged into the tranny and appears FAB. Look forward to making a mess of
some timber with it in the near future.
The question still remains open for discussion on the manufacture date.
I'm sure there are a lot of Triton owners with a mild interest.
Once again Ray thanks for the help.
