    Default Triton Router Mounting Plate

Hi, I recently bought a second hand RTA300 Router Table and now looking to update it from the current Ryobi Router to a new Triton 1400W model I have just bought. The current sub-plate on the table appears to be a generic type with two spring loaded fingers attaching the router base and two semi-circle raised locator fittings attaching directly to the main mounting plate. It appears that what I need is a dedicated plate RTA423 as the current generic plate creates a problem with the router handle jamming on the side of the table support. The only place I can see where the plate is available is the UK but postage costs are prohibitive. Can anyone assist with advice where to get the part, or how to fit the Triton router to the existing plate. Thanks

There is a bloke that sells Triton bits and pieces on ebay who's name escapes me at the moment. Bought a couple of things off him and have found his prices reasonable and with quick delivery. I'm sure someone will pop up with the name of the ebay store

Thanks BertR. But I have already tried him (Adams Tools) - no go.. Recently bought a new Biscuit Joiner Kit from him though and service was great.

Thanks .. The part number is RTA423 Have contacted them but they don't carry much in the way of spare parts. They suggested White International (the Triton Australian distributors) l but I had previously been told that they only import mostly full item and very few spares. I have been able to do a bit of a work around with the current plate so I will give up now I think. Thanks to all for the suggestions,

BTH99 I've used this mob a few times for bits and pieces. They are easy to deal with.

Thanks Ross.. I have also bought some stuff from them - excellent service. The only problem with this part is that the part is about 12GBP and the postage is about 38GPB so not really economical !!! I have now worked out how to clamp the new Router to the generic base so it doesn't foul the side of the table - not pretty, but appears stable and effective. Thanks for your input though - I am a new member and very much appreciative of the responses I get from the experts. Cheers

I live in the UK. If it would help, you could get Tool Spares Online to send it to my UK address, then I will post it onto you. I cannot imagine that I couldn't post such a part for considerably less than you've been quoted. If interested, drop me a PM or e-mail.

    Regards

The Triton router should fit straight into the plate with no extra fittings; on the router base are two spring loaded coach bolts that slip into two keyhole shaped cut outs in the router table. Do you have a copy of the RTA300 manual; this shows exactly how to fit the Triton router. The manual is available online if you don't have a hard copy.

The bolts don't fit into the router table, they fit into the router sub-plate, which is what he is after.

BTH99, am I to understand that you are completely missing the router sub-plate, P/N RTA419 (item "12" in the instruction manual)? The part number you are quoting (RTA423) would appear to actually be only a bag of fittings, the clamps you don't need if you're using a Triton router and the rest will be fitted to the table already. I know it has a picture of the sub-plate; but look at the prices: why would the sub plate on its own be MORE expensive than an identical sub-plate supplied with clamping fittings? See HERE for the parts listings I'm referring to.

I'm asking because the sub-plate is an integral part of the router plate assembly and provides the holes etc for the clamps that are used for non-Triton machines. If your plate is indeed missing how on earth did the original owner manage to fit the Ryobi router?

    Any chance of a photo?

The router table existed before the Triton router, so early models didn't have the subplate - they had a universal clamping system (which isn't optimal for the Triton, hence the subplate).
The pricing also reflects the history.
I think BTH99 has it under control (apart from the money!) I've been down this upgrade path myself.

    Default Triton Router Mounting Plate

Thanks again to all for the input here. Chrism3 is correct re the universal clamping system. For everyone's info I have attached a pic of how my Triton Router is now mounted on that. Note that I have had to put one of the fingers into the moulding on the base plate intended for the dust extraction hose, otherwise any other position puts the router handles in a position which are fouled by the side panel of the router table. Not really a problem as I probably wouldn't have used it as an extraction point anyway.
For the record, according to Toolssparesonline photos the sub-plate alone is RTA419 and the kit is RTA423 with screws and clips etc. Interesting though that the latter, with more stuff is slightly cheaper than the bare sub-plate. As mentioned previously the prices are reasonable until you add the shipping costs to Oz..
Hope this clarifies for all and thanks yet again for all the input and suggestions here. I continue to be amazed with the amount of quality assistance available on this site.

Thanks Chief Tiff, my apologies as I hadn't read your post fully before my reply just posted.. I agree that the RTA423 is probably not inclusive of the plate, although interesting that the pic on the link you sent does include it in the set- as does the toolssparesonline listing.
Anyway, trust the pic of the universal one I added to my post explains the setup with that - naturally it was also able to accommodate the Ryobi router. Cheers.

No, RTA423 is inclusive of the plate.

BTW, when you do get your hands on the kit, don't discard the red ring holding the tree of bits together. It fits between the subplate and the plate as a dust control and support..
