    Default If ordering parts from Triton, do it soon

    Over the past few week or so I have been trying to get some parts from Triton. Initially I got hold of Malcom, but had to check up on some other gear, and the subsequent four calls to triton I got GMC people who

    1) Asked whether I was a business or public, (im public)
    2) Gave me a lecture to go through bunnings, although I told them I have ordered from Triton before,
    3) Couldnt find codes for the gear I wanted (adjustable feet for a Mk3), I knew the code for the switch box,
    4) Tried to palm me off to others,
    5) Promised to call back twice, and never did.

    In the end I waited on hold till I could speak to Malcom again, and it was worth the wait. Unfortunately he is retiring, I think at the end of June. I remember someone else in this section gave him a really good rating, and the girls at GMC will tell you he knows Triton's inside out and is one of the few who can go into the warehouse.

    I recomend that if you need anything from Triton, ring and order it quick. Malcom gave great service, knew what I wanted, found the codes, went and checked, and called me back. I ended up getting some extras for a mark 3 extension table as he is retiring and did not want to deal with the others there in the future. Just ask for him, he knocks off at 3 pm, and no I do not work for Trion/GMC. If you have had to deal with the others there, you wont regret it.

    Excuse my ignorance but has GMC aquired Triton and if so what is happening to their products, ie will they continue to be produced.....if not I think I will re-consider buying as I may not be able to get parts or accessories etc

    I think there is a fair bit of stuff around. Get it new - probably get a deal, else pick it up from eBay etc.. the forum here... We are talking about sheet metal ... any saw/router will be compatible, more or less.... Worry less

    After reading back through the forums I noticed GMC purchased Triton at the end of 2005

    So are they still producing the equipment then ie I can still buy it brand new can I or is that all about to stop?

    Yes they are still producing them, we are all watching to see what happens to the Quality, but GMC had said they are committed to keeping the brand. They have actually increased the number of products (More towards new machines not tables though)
    I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

    Given my hassels dealing with their phone staff, loss of someone good is maybe not the death knoll, but it is for my bying parts from them. Gotta love the Mark 3's for the price you can get them for.

    Given that the Mk3 has been out of production for a good number of years (10 ish ?) I don't see why you would expect that Triton or GMC would continue to have parts available. They will stop sooner rather than later for those old models. Fair enough too i think.

    For me when dealing with anyone its not whether or not they have parts available but the level of service you get when contacting them. I suspect that as the Mk3's are quite an older line many who work there may not be familiar with them.

    Speaking from experience, i can tell you they aren't. In fact it's hard to get staff to work the help lines. They get abused by tradies, Bunnings staff and the general public. I worked there for 3 days helping them out (they wanted a Triton person) and wouldn't go back. not the job that's the problem, it's bloody people and their demands.
    If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

    Actually it was about June 2005 from memory. You'll still be able to buy all of the current stuff brand new for the forseeable future. That along with new stuff coming out all the time. The new 3-in-1 sander is really good as is the new Bandsaw(which I have used) and the thicknessers are awesome. The new Superjaws is good(in my opinion).

    Gumby, I worked in call centres calling overseas till 5am in the morning for quite a while. What I learnt is that you dont take it personally if you get hung up on, yelled at, abused, etc, and every call you start over, no matter how bad your day was. I ended up having great conversations from CEO's to managers from all over the world with that approach. It's your job and honestly, it gets quite frustrating and down heartening after a while when people you are dealing with take their frustrations out on you. Many times you do not want to go back for your next shift.

    When trying to deal with Triton unfortunatey on some occasions I got GMC people. Clearly they had troubles with Triton gear. Fair enough. One person said so and I understood, and chose to call back at a later occasion. No Foul there. However, because someone is having a bad day for whatever reason I dont need lectures, and if someone says they will call me back, I expect it. We were given a major reaming if we missed calling some one at an appointed time by our shift managers- try looking for lost numbers whilst on other calls at 3am. Having worked in a call centre, it is your job to help, I know how to deal with people and how not to be abusive. This thread was to highlight how helpful I found the right staff member at Triton to be. Its not expecting too much to order a switchbox and adjustable feet for a mark three new series is it?

    No, it's not. But I don't think you should expect that the staff know much about something so out of date as a MK3.

    BTW, my posts here were general and not meant to be having a go at you personally.

    Actually it is.

    No wonder they had trouble working out what you wanted. The MK3 New Series, which hasn't been made for a long time, don't have adjustable feet. They have a separate frame on which the WC rests. That frame has rubber foot inserts but not adjustable feet.

    I found that if you took the trouble of looking at Triton's website and looked at the diagrams and got the part numbers before calling, getting spare parts was easy. Just give the operator the part numbers and the quantity and they would be despatched without delay.

    Ofcourse it is easy to blame others if you're asking for a non existing part of a superseeded WC for which parts are being phased out after their recent upgrade offer.
