Default Triton TRA-001. Problems with start up.

Greetings. My Triton in table router is not starting up. Yesterday, it started, wavered a bit then stopped. I tried it again and no go. Does anyone have any idea what might have happened? Could it be the Armature arm? The brushes are fine. Any tips or insights??

    Regards,

    Rob

with the on/off switch in the OFF position, did you turn the spindle a bit by hand and then try to start it up again? I had a similar problem with my MOF001. Burnt out the commutator, so I replaced the armature and she's been purring like a kitten ever since. My TRA001 is in pieces on the floor besides me, I suspect I need to replace the field windings

    Hi all,

Thought I'd let you know what happened. This was not a brushes problem, nor was it an armature issue. The problem was that one of the wires that go from the right hand side of the router (as you look at it from the front) had broken off it's connector. A quick soldering and all is well. another trap for young players.

    Regards,

    Rob

Hi, My name is Andrew and I've just joined. I also have the TRA001 which decided to stop on me a while back. I've been living without it as I've been too busy with the power saw to get back to the router, but I'm hoping to get it going again and looking for some suggestions. When I have the router plugged in, there is power to the switch as it lights up when I slide back the switch cover and flip it on. Unfortunately it just doesn't run or even try to make a noise from there I've checked the brushes and they still look fine. As far as I can recall, there was no unusual symptoms or behaviour prior to it just stopping. Would welcome any thoughts on the likely culprit for its current refusal to run.

    Thanks
    Andrew

As Kuffy said above, try - WITH THE POWER OFF - turning the shaft by ⅛ of a turn, then try again. If it fires up, then it's worn/damaged field windings more than likely. Has it ever been stalled?

Thanks, Ray, it turned out to be a wire connecting the start switch with the rest of the router. I soldered the two ends together again and no problem!

Thanks Ray, I tried doing this but no joy still There's just no hint of it wanting to get going. I'm quite sure it's never stalled ... just one day when I went to use it, it decided not to play ball with me.

I've also seen similar issues raised in this thread (Repair of Triton TRA001 Router) which you also replied to. Am wondering if it might be the speed control (although like the other fella, I pretty much always have it mounted on the Triton router table going at full speed). I see this thing is £50, so would be about AUD$80 + shipping unless I can source one in Australia? Fairly expensive item for trial and error, so may have to start pulling things apart and looking a bit deeper ...

    Cheers
    Andrew
