    Default Triton, Upgrade or Not?

    Hi Guys,
I am new here, this may have been asked before?

    I have a Triton Mk3,

Built 2 yachts with this, have been robbed during the process and all they left was the triton,

Initially, I had a Makita saw and that got stolen along with $3000 dollars of other stuff,

Replaced the saw with a Hitachi, what a difference! not the same torque as the old Makita, now has heaps of arbor float!

Question, (or questions, more to the point!),

Would the new Triton saw fit my old Mk3? Looks very big?

Would I be better buying a new system or buying a "stand alone" saw bench, as they seem to be about the same price as a Triton, (CarbaTec for example)?

I used to move a lot, and the triton was an asset, now I have retired and have settled in my own home, which way should I go?

    Regards,
    Gary
PS: I have the router table which fits the Mk3 but not the stand

upgrade the triton gear ......you could buy a new set-up like a stand alone saw table ...but you would not be comfy with it ...as you said , you built two boats with a mk3, stick to what you know, you will be happier

Ultimately it's $. A triton 9 1/4" saw is about $300, or whatever price you can get it for under that. Even if you add a 2000, which is a nicer table than the Mk3, your doing $800 max all new stuff.

To get a really sweet table saw your spending more than that. If you buy a cheapie table saw your losing portability and not gaining a signifigantly better machine IMO.

Now if you go second hand there are some sweet table saws and multi station woodwork machines that come up on ebay and other places for good $. There was a really heavy spindle moulder/saw/planer etc the other day that had no bids at $1500. There have been some table saws that looked good to my eye for about $500. If however your going second hand you have to compare second hand prices. You'd probably get a 2000 plus saw for $500 or so.

The saw will definitely fit a Mk3. I've got a 3 new series and I've got a muther of a saw in it. It'll take a bigger one than mine.

So as always it depends on your priorities and where you want to end up as to what is best for you. $, portability, accuracy, versatility.

I'm planning to sell on my triton tables soon. I'm going incra and home made bench because I'm fed up losing 25 mm of saw depth and spending an hour setting up and packing away for 15 minutes of work. My replacment system will cost about $1500, replacing $400 worth of triton stuff, but for me the hassle is worth the $. YMMV.

So which ever way you jump it'll be good, you just have to decide what is best for YOU.

    Thanks Guys,

Will get a new Saw! the green shed has got them for just under $300 in my area, looks like the new saw will be a lot easier to adjust as well,

Just looks huge! thought it would not fit,

    Regards,
    Gary
