Triton prices
Hi folks, i've never owned a triton tool, but am very keen on the TPT15 Thicknesser, and after readinig many threads on this forum, i am going to purchase this machine and give it a go.After chasing prices for a couple weeks, i'm very surprised that the best price i can get in Melbourne which is where i live, is $1090, Yet i can get this same machine shipped from Sydney for $885 including freight to my home. I would like to hear any views on this,as i can't understand why i have to source this machine from interstate, but i'm going to, as i'd like to be loyal to the company that has given me a great price as compared to its competitors in Melb

I'm curious why you are reluctant to source it from interstate.
Cheers, Glen

I have had teh tPT15 for 1.5yrs already. About a year ago i saw teh list price at $999 (Tritons price) and have seen at teh Syd WWWS at $899 special. So this is what would expect teh price to be around. I think 1090 is dearer and they have adecent mark up

Gidday Glen, i'm not at all reluctant to source from interstate, but am just surprised that the same product by the same manufacturer with an interstate freight charge attached to it is so much cheaper than local retailers. Cheers Greg

I am suspecting that the deal is that the unit is not in stock in Sydney, when you place an order and pay, they will order from Triton (in Melb) and it will deliver direct from warehouse to workshop.
Thanks for the lead, I might be doing something extremely similar before the month is over.

Gidday Malb, I think you are probably spot on . I'm very keen on this machine, and after watching Stu's video i'm definitley getting getting one. I'd be interested in hearing what you think of the TPT15 as although i have a huge passion for woodwork, and it's associated machinery i'm very much a novice and appreciate any views or advice i can get. Cheers Greg

How close to SE Melbourne are you? If you want to play with one before making that final decision, let me know.

Thanks Stuart for your generous offer. I'm in the Northern subs but am going to be interstate for the next couple of weeks so i may contact you when i'm back if thats ok. I'm mainly interested in machining old rough sawn hardwood approx 200mm x 40mm. I've seen a mate do it with great results using a Ryobi and very shallow passes so i figure the tpt15 should cope. What do you think? Cheers Greg PS your videos are great.

No probs - just let me know when you want a peek.
Added advantage - you get to play with the moulding functions of the machine as well."Clear, Ease Springs"

having just done a fair bit of hardwood - old seasoned from my roof. 200x25mm and 100x75 no hassle - except it does wear the blades. i was passing 3m lengths
Slow going as i did not want to take off too much at a pass
have fun

The machine is good, i originally bought it to do 15" sheets of oregon that i biscuit joined togetehr.
The hardwood is frommy old roof after i had an extension put on. So i started from undressed timber. I found after a lot passes the blades had worn - but i have turned them over as they are double sided. I will have to source new ones at some time.
The finish on both teh oregon and hardwood is great. Using teh slower feed the finish is quite smooth.
The one mod i did was to build a full cupboard underneath - never have enough storage in teh shed, I put it on wheels on this so i can move it to teh side when not in use as it is a large unit and fairly heavy. I could drag it out of teh way on teh supplied legs but teh wheels make it easy.
The only failure i have had was teh impeller then is internal that creates the extraction. The early models (I got mine 1 week after the orginal units arrived in Australia - They are made in China) The design was weaker so they have redesigned (according to Triton) Able to replace myself in 10 minutes.

The moulding cutters are the bigger issue. If you look back i have asked teh question before.
Stu (Stu Shed) say triton have some - but they don't seem to have released them. I've been told Carbitec have some (Their are two models) The TPT15 need the flat back ones. They have about 20 - none of which suit what i want. (My wife wants Picture frame profiles) They also hace a curved back so i don't think thay would fit.
Where are looking to buy from ? What is teh shipping cost - i have never bought from O/S and dealt with customs
Dave
