Just got an email from the local Men's Shed with an invite to Carbatec for the "New Triton Tool" launch. Also got an email from Carbatec with their specials including WX7 base unit and Module prices

It doesn't look like Carbatec want to sell much Triton gear with some ridiculous pricing. $500 for the small router and over $600 for the other 2. I guess it leaves them room for som sale prices.

I got the invite too and will go on Monday, but for $2000 I can get the Sawstop Jobsite saw. They would need to seriously sell me on why I should go with Triton for this price.

Perhaps the Festool CMS system is a better comparison.

A single stand plus modules for
    the TS 55 saw
    the TS 75 saw
turning all three routers into small scale spindle molders
    a belt sander
    Festools jig saws.

the primary selling point is the unit's small foot print and integration.

Triton might be trying for something similar, and the components seem to be priced at around 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of the equivalent Festool "package".

I don't understand why Triton prices have gone through the roof (unless it's because of Masters closing down).
I bought the big Triton router (TRA-001B) about 6 months ago for $350 from Carbatec. The same router is now $635 at Carbatec and $520 at Timberbits. How can it go up that much in 6 months!? How can there be such a big (non-sale) price difference between the 2 big Triton stockists?

Maybe White International or one of their distributors could chime in and explain the price rise

So it's release day. Anyone rush out and buy one? Anyone other than Carbatec put their prices out yet?

I was speaking to David from Timber Bits and he was saying that the saw module will retail about $1000 and the stand about $800 so it looks as if Carbatecs advertised prices are the norm.
I'd be surprised if he will stock them

Outrageous. $1800 for a contractor saw or $1300 for a router table. I guess at $2300 for both it starts to become more appealing.
I've been itching for this to come out in AU and I'm a huge fan of the idea of the TWX7, but these prices are ridiculous.

Carbatec has the Jet 10" sliding table saw on special for $1440 which is a much better saw. https://www.carbatec.com.au/machiner...-saw-3-cartons
Add the Kreg large router table system for $750 https://www.carbatec.com.au/routing-...arge-rt-system and you've still got plenty of change from $2300 for accessories. Madness!

All the Triton prices have gone through the roof so I guess they just want to squeeze the AU market.

The OZ distributors must think that the OZ market will bear the increase (close on 50% on some items from my reckoning). Problem is that as Triton prices go up, it starts to bring a lot of other makes into contention re pricing. When I bought my MOF001 it was $295 and cheaper than other compariable units. Now at $495 - $635 we have Bosch, Metabo, Hitachi, Makita etc. similar price or cheaper.
Your observation about the table saws is a very valid point.
Hopefully sanity will prevail or we may see Triton in Australia go the way of the dodo.

Suppliers need to realise Australia is not the land of milk and honey anymore, wage growth has been stagnant for years and under/unemployment is going through the roof. People just don't have the same money to splash around they did 5-10 years ago.

Has anyone looked at the cost of the WX7 with saw and router modules ex Rockler in the US?
I'm calculating around $1600 (including GST) plus shipping (make a guess and add GST).

To my mind, the additional cost if buying in Australia is not outrageous. Perhaps an extra $300 to $400

Which is not to say the WX7 a good deal compared to buying a separate contractors saw and router table.

But what Triton is actually selling is a small foot print woodworking tool setup.
Much like the original Triton concept was a small foot print table saw that used your existing circular saw.

At $1600, that's $700 less than the AU price or about 2/3rds of it.
I don't expect it will be cheap to ship, but I also think there will be plenty left over after shipping.

It's all made in China anyway, it's not like it's more expensive for the distributor to bring it to Australia compared to the US.

The price differential between the US and Oz has ever been thus, not peculiar to Triton or indeed any other brand. It is normally called the "Australia Tax".

Only 2 things you can do, grin and bear it and buy locally, or buy from overseas, be it the US or the UK.

On a lighter note, there is a review of the Triton WX7 in AWR #93 which I picked up today.

And please stop posting your whinging about how unfair it is.

If it's not Festool it's Triton and if it's not Triton it will be something else. It just never stops these posts about how bad we are done by.

Just do your due diligence and make up your mind and do it quietly.
