Hi Adam,
I've been following this thread with interest all the way,
I have not bothered to offer any advise as Ian & Paul have
covered just about everything.
Your saw has cleaned up nicely, except for that blood great hole
All the repair suggestions were good but would not have eliminated the blemish.
I reckon you ought to enhance it with some sort of decorative devise like a pair
of buttons or coins or fake rubies.
My only other advise is to obtain a trash saw to practise your file skills before you
put them to this saw.
all the best
Graham.

Adam
Graham's suggestion of a "practice" saw is excellent. I still have such saws (quite a lot of them actually: All those bits of rubbish I acquired and mentioned in previous threads) and use them often. Just be aware that they frequently have softer steel in the low grade saws and when you sharpen your D-8 it may feel different under the file. Not all saw steel was created equal.

Hi Graham
Thanks very much for your input.
I hadn't thought of enhancing the hole, that's a great idea, thank you. I'm going to see if I can get a couple of my Pa's old (non-valuable) coins he used to collect and fashion something out of those. I think that will be fitting as it used to be his saw.
I will take you advice on practising on a trash saw. I really don't want to botch this saw with my first sharpening attempt. Plus it will give me an excuse to visit the tip shop
Thanks again, Graham

Adam,
It only just occurred to me, you may now feel a little left out, nothing to do,a bit anxious looking for that next hit, sorry mean saw,
If that’s the case I may be able to help out with a few saws I know that need some Adam love.
Should I send them down, more than happy to pay for postage.
I’ve offered this to Paul an Ian in the past but still eagerly waiting there replies [emoji849][emoji849].
Cheers Matt,
You could start at the top and work your way down.

LOL, damn, thought all my Christmases had come at once
But seriously, I would be more than happy to start with one or two and see where it takes me.
I enjoyed the process, especially the learning-along-the-way, and would also be glad to restore them for you. 1, I'll be gaining more experience and 2, I'd be pleased to return the favour for you sending me the saw-set
Regards Adam

Adam,
The saw set was a donation not a favour you will use it more than me.
I only have two hands [emoji849].
If you really really really really want me to send you a saw to restore ok.
But seriously that is way over the top
There must be vintage saws down there how else do they make Huon pine in to bits of timber for me to buy??.
Plus there’s always flee bay.
Have you enquired about how many saws Paul as?
Cheers Matt,

What sort of innuendo is that? Let me just set this right with an exclusive pic never seen before (it includes two extras) of my saws:

I count five, but some of you with imagination may see more. Can anybody spot the two Wilkie's? First prize is a handsaw that you will send to me for restoration and sharpening: Then I keep it!
Matt, I should have spotted that the "wall" was in fact a door as it is similar to my wall/door.

Oops! Wrong door. This is the door I meant but not so artistically done; More....well, functional. Actually in a warehouse situation it would probably in the creative zone.

Sorry about the lighting. It's natural, unfortunately moonless but completely authentic.

Well, that's your USERS, Paul, wot about the "collectibles"....... ?
And shhh!, we won't mention the couple that are awaiting refurbishment before finding good homes....
But wait, what's that old saying about people who live in glass houses should draw curtains before removing trousers? I see about a dozen saws in your user till, whereas my 'users' sprawl over two cupboards & the count easily tops 20. In my defense, some of those are special-purpose saws, like this one, made expressly for cutting the sides of sliding dovetail trenches: pic 3.jpg
Or this one, which is for cutting the deep circular part of the slot on Disston handles: Handle saw.jpg
Then there's a saw I kept because the Budgeroo (Lysicarpus sp.) handle was just too spectacular to part with - I don't think I'll ever have another piece of wood quite like this: Budgeroo handle.jpg I think I've used it once...
Maybe we can discount those.
I guess I'm not in any position to quibble with Paul'sobsessionhobby, so I'll just quietly slink away & stay quiet for a while.......
Cheers,IW
