Default Anyone know what this is?

Looks like something for forcing floorboards back straight and tightening them up...

Hi SD. I am guessing maybe a planing stop for a bench. Wings screwed to the under side, and threaded rod with handle allows you to wind it up and down?

    I’m with Ma, an Paige.

But some measurements would help with scale.
    Is the stop Aluminium ?.

    Cheers Matt.

    Default Some better pics

I thought about it being some type of inset vise but the teeth threw me off. And the height of the vertical jaw seems to be higher than needed.

    Dog / planing stop.

planing stop with teeth - Google Search

here's a photo of a catalogue item about the time this was made

Mounts vertically on to the bench, see above images

(teeth are parallel to the benchtop, screw is at 90° to the benchtop)

I think the height, which seems more than required at first glance, is to allow for thick benchtops. A thin benchtop would need to be packed out to allow the dog to be fully retracted. Also a shallow recess in the top of the bench is required for the toothed foot to be fully retracted.

Question is, what are you going to do with it now?

It's going to be included in a sale I'm putting together. I have 2 100+ year old joiners toolboxes am in the midst of restoring and going to off load, stuffed with a bunch of old tools I've accumulated over the past 40 odd years. Something in the head says it's time to cull the herd...
