Default Aussie hand saw: Marsden (Lysaght Works)

OK so this saw won't win any beauty contests, and features the most random and crude bunch if fasteners I've seen on a saw for a while, but thought this might be of interest to somebody. It had me stumped for a while, but I think I worked out what it is, a Marsden, from Lysaght Works Ltd, NSW. I assume to be post WW2. Stamped 10 at the heel and 20" long.

The etch is present enough for me to work out what it is. It shows 2 crossed swords, "Marsden" at the top, "LYSAGHT" across the middle. I'll try to get some etch photos up.

I'd be interested if anyone has any more info about Marsden saws.

    Cheers, Tim

They rate a mention here: http://www.htpaa.org.au/ausmakers.php?search=saw&action=search
Someone from the HTPAA may know something.

A quick scan of Trove reveals some ads for the saws in Australian newspapers:

The first two ads for the saws in newspapers around NSW, Qld, Vic and Tas in 1951 and 1952.

The 3rd ad appeared in the Argus in 1956.

There were also regular ads in the Newcastle Herald for Sorbys Hardware that carried details of the locally made saws.

Wow, thanks guys, I really appreciate that.

The etch on my saw looks like the illustration in the ad from the Argus in '56. The saw itself looks to be the same as the one in the cabinet at the wood show.

    Cheers, Tim
