Axe repair -WA
Hi all. Just wondering if anyone knows of a place here in WA that sells a good variety of axe handles. I've got 3x 4.5lb heads and a block splitter. Thanks

Most hardware stores carry them - even Bunnings. If not in stock they can get them in.

Have to say I'm not a huge fan of hardware store handles. Crap wood and often shaped thick and clunky to make up for lack of strength. Weights are all over the place and it can be difficult or impossible to balance the axe well.
Depends on the axe and how much effort you want to go to. Unused old school handles with lovely elegant shape and top quality timber can often be found at farm clearing sales. Sand off the grey and give them an oil and they can not be surpassed in looks and functionality.
I have on occasion picked up a bundle of 5 or 6 for $20.
The Elders and Landmark - Harcourts websites are a good place to start finding sales. Lots of other interesting hand tool treasures at the sales too. It is an investment of time to attend these auctions, but I find it worthwhile.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up at Bunnings and made some work but they did feel very light. I'll see how they go. Thanks again.

Plenty of linseed oil is a must. They will keep for years with regular applications.
