    Default Backsaw - sweden

I have several backsaws ... but most of them were bought fairly early in my museum building essential tool purchasing ... so they are mostly later and plainer than the handsaws I have.

I was testing out a reorganisation possibility, and thought that maybe this saw had some marks on the back that might be informative. Nope, just scratches. But the plate was dark, so I gave that a little cleanup in case it had anything to tell me ... Hmmmm.

Nothing too special here ... steel back, uninspiring handle ... but the maker is unusual (to me) so ...

Swedish saws - Saw Discussion Forums has some information about the company.

Also they were the first to produce hand saws for logging in 1887 or 1888 after a man called Jonas Eriksson Landén offered them his design.

    Hello Paul,

I came across this one man cross cut saw last year, and when I was searching for information about it
I found your post about your back saw.

This is not a 3' western saw but a 900 mm European saw, with peg or plain teeth, that are still sticky sharp
which may indicate that the saw has not been used.

Also there are two options for locating the helper handle, either the regular top position or at the tip.

If you look closely at the etch, you'll see inside the circles a sturdy Swiss hatted woodsman busy at
the saw buck, employing his trusty Stridsberg & Biorck 263 buck saw.

So it just goes to show that the Australian saw market was open to all sorts of manufacturers.

    Regards

    Graham.
