Does it make a noticeable difference to the effort required to use it?
    Cheers,
Hi Ian. Yes the higher approach angle makes the plane much more user friendly.

Stewie, what's the next step after hitting it with this plane - go straight to scrapers, or a bit of smoothing plane to take the top off the ridges first? The valleys look to be about 0.5mm deep?
Hi Brett. A scraper blade will remove the grooves fairly quickly over the timber surface, and is by far the best option when dealing with difficult non directional grain.

unless of course you had a set of stones with teeth grooves in them.

then you'd need a sharpening jig to keep your motion exactly linear. and a way to dress those stones to renew the grooves. and a way to maintain *that* tool.

but other than that, no reason why not

Just been checking out some of your work ... very nice indeed.

Ive just started another thread asking for some advice on making a small block plane. Have gone through a number of your older posts but have not been able to find anything specific to what I am chasing.

Hi Dave. Krenov style woodie's are simple enough to make. Traditional style woodies that a very big learning kerb + you need to have the right planemaker floats before attempting. If you any plane blades let me know. I got a box full of unused in different widths.

Stewie, Thanks for the reply. Yes I am chasing some blades. I am in a swap thing overseas with 4 guys and was thinking of making them all a plane plus one for me.

If you had some small ones for a small palm plane (guessing in timber they are a bit bigger than a palm plane). I will PM you my details and you can let me know how much you would want.
