I don't have any holdfasts yet (actually I don't even have dog holes in my bench yet...I'm not up to that stage of my WIP...I'm trying to beat Groggy's 3 year record!), but how many do people generally have? I had thought about 4, but...?
I figured that if I was going to pay a blacksmith to make some, they'd be unique to the blacksmith. So it's not like you could ask someone to make a replica in a couple of years and expect it to be the same.

Re: Blacksmith made holdfasts
No real plan. Glen had an old one with him that had a square corner I think. The. Lacsmith just looked T it and made one to try with round corners. It worked so I Asked him to make 5 more. Did not take long.

Well, that was fun. Just made 3 holdfasts to WW plan. Used the Hardy hole in an anvil to help bend them as that also gave me a rough measure for the shaft, but the the shaft turned out a little shorter than I would've liked. Live and learn. I didn't try to make the rod square, to much extra hammering. I'll make some more in a couple of weeks when night-school is back from term break.
And I probably won't be able to lift my arm tomorrow.
We don't know how lucky we are......

hold fasts
Hi all, sorry for the delay. I have been on holiday and when I returned it seemed the company who is making the hold fasts has been snowed under. I will contact again after Easter and see if any progress has happened.
Can't wait much longer - need the hold downs yeaterday Oh well will have to wait for Easter now.
Will keep all informed when I know a little more. Until then Happy Easter all.Success is getting what you want.

I went the industrial route and got a quote from a large fabricator, thinking that hey'd have some economies of scale etc. finally got a quote back for $170 each if I ordered 10+. I shan't be taking advantage of their offer.

Ye deities! If I still had my gas axe I'd knock out a couple of dozen for a tenth of that price!
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
