It could well be a Stanley with a Chapman chuck but that looks to me like a pre 1936 Chapman. There should be written on the other side of the frame "No 60" and "British (JAC) Made"

You're right. Not sure why I assumed Stanley - doesn't say Stanley anywhere on the brace. Says "Manufactured by J.A. Chapman Sheffield England" on the chuck and just No.60 and Steel 10" on the body.

The branding differing between "Steel 10 in"and "British (JAC) Made" is something I'm still trying to work out. Since the model number gives you the sweep of the brace, ie in this range: 58 = 8", 59 = 9", 60= 10", 61 = 12" and 62 = 14".
There are about 84 models listed on the pre Stanley catalogue that I've seen, you'd have to have hundreds of them to carry out a type study.
    Geoff.
