I Googled H.Holmes, & came up with nothing at all.
Could someone enlighten me as to who H.H was.

Definitely the right price. This is the first Holmes chisel that I have heard of. I would think that they are not common. There is a C Holmes of 90 Wellington Street Sheffield, who was a cutlery maker at the time of the Great Exhibition in 1851. Cutlery makers often made tools as well.

I have found out it is 1 1/2in. in good nick, & I cleaned it today.
I'm really going to have a go at putting Photos on these Forums, just a bit lazy, I guess.
I will keep asking around, as you never know, who knows what,
I belong to HTPAA, & there is someone there that is sure to know.

In Kennith Rogers book Some 19th Century English Woodworking Tools, there was a Henry Holmes who operated in Sheffield from 1871 to 1900. He is listed in the 19th Century Brace and Bit Manufacturers on page 473.
I've never seen a H Holmes chisel in my travels, but you seem to have the midas touch with your collecting. Well done
