Default Chuck disassembly - unusual Jacobs on a Footprint 160A hand drill

I've got a Footprint 160A hand drill ("Sheffield England") with an unusual Jacobs chuck on it , that I need to get apart for maintenance.

By Googling I found these Footprint 160A drills date from the 1970s. The chuck is unusual in that it is keyed, but seems to be made to tighten by hand if you don't have the key (see pics).

It is made a bit differently from a conventional Jacobs keyed chuck. And so Jacobs' disassembly instructions http://www.jacobschuck.com/keyed-dri...k-repair-guide don't apply because the sleeve on this chuck has been pushed on from the jaws end, not from the back end as in a normal Jacobs chuck.

I could just try it on the hydraulic press and see what happens, but I don't even know if this type of chuck can be disassembled and reassembled, or if it's a cheapie throwaway type never intended for strip down and rebuild.

I'd prefer not to stuff it. So wise counsel sought here.

The drill was found in a box on a Sydney kerbside, so it's dry and rusty. It is going off soon for a new life in a Solomon Islands village.

PS. I had a go on the hydraulic press, pushing from the back end as much as I dared, but I got no movement.

Have you tried contacting Jacobs and asking them?
They have a technical question option on the contact form.

No idea on the chuck. But - A good soak in Kroil and exercising it good would likely go a long way to bring it back to life.
