Default I have been cleaning out my father's shed

I went around to do some cleaning up in my father's shed today and I was told to take this home with me
    Tool Chest.jpg
I remember when he got it about 43 years ago It cost more than a weeks wages, it is complete with all the original tools.
Wonder what it is worth today?
I am going to clean the tools and find a piece of wall in the workshop to hang it on, I remember using the tools to build a few engines when I was younger.

That's a heirloom. There are collectors out there who will be green. Should last a few more generations.

I just have to put all the pieces back, any one know where I can lay my hands on a tool map for it?

I remember that tool kit from my younger days. It was considered the ultimate tool kit for wrenching, so I thought your request would be an easy one to find an answer for.
I did a quick Google search and discovered there are several different layouts. None the same as yours.
Not as easy as I thought.
It looks like most of the pieces are in a pretty logical position with the possible exception of the sockets themselves.
Which positions are you uncertain about?
Is it an AF/Metric or AF/Wentworth collection?
    Cheers

I am not really uncertain about positions of the tools Jim, after I clean the grease of everything I think it will all go back into a logical position, I was just wondering if logic would be right

    G'Day Phil,
Something like 120 pieces in that kit at an adverage price of say $25.00 each,
you have at least $3000.00 worth of QUALITY hand tools, well done.
Plus the cabinet of about $300.00..
    Continue to look after them.
    Cheers, Crowie

I'd say that's the one Lightwood. Well done.
Phil, you're really stretching the memory cells now. I bought the slightly smaller version of yours back in about 1968/9.
I seem to recall the main difference was the wall mounted cabinet and the torque wrench and wheel spider, but I wouldn't trust that I remember correctly. My box was a tool chest with three drawers and a lift top for the sockets.
But I do remember clearly that it represented a months wages.
The screwdrivers in Lightwood's pic are different to yours. I THINK they were the older style. I had the style you have.

Sorry, just one thing I just remembered.
Take care with that ratchet. There's a steel disc held in by a circlip. Over time, the grease would sometimes harden. The operation should be smooth and almost noiseless. Its a easy job to re-grease it. Don't over-do it. Doesn't need much.
BTW...in the vintage of your tools, Sidchrome offered an unconditional lifetime warranty. And they're still good for it. The only thing is, you'll get modern replacements which although still good, aren't quite up to the standard of yours.

The crow foot spanner is in a different place on mine if you look at the picture.
