I'm not a stanley buff, but does that plane say A 40 on the side of it? Is it an aluminium scrub plane with a fence? Haven't seen one of those before.

It says "A45" on the side. Like I said it's a copy of a Stanley 45 except that it's chrome plated. Badly.

Google "Anant tools" and their whole range of Stanley knock-offs can be viewed!

The combination plane is a copy of a Stanley 45 made by an Indian firm called "Anant". These guys even use a picture from a genuine 45 instruction manual in theirs. They shamelessly copy quite a few Stanley planes.......They have their own website and export to the US.

Build quality is.......well, nasty but the blades seem to be made from reasonable good steel. If anyone wanted or needed to replace their Stanley 45 blades these would probably fit perfectly.

I bought it in Dubai last year on a whim.

Righto Peter; over to you now!
    Thanks for that puzzle CT,
I'll get a couple of tools together later today...
    Regards,
    Peter

I suppose it is a red herring........no pun intended but the oil can jumps to mind.
It is not used as a woodwork tool.
But then I suppose you could say the burnisher isn't either

    Red herring
The oil can shares something with all but one of those items...so not what I was thinking.

Now, the thing you are calling a burnisher, is it the one above the saw set?
That's something like an emery stick, where paper is wrapped around a stick. That one has a screw-down plate to keep the sand/emery paper on it, or perhaps some leather charged with cutting compound.

    Regards,
    Peter

Yes Peter, I thought that was a burnisher but I just enlarged it and I can now see four screws holding the plate on.
You are not saying that it is not the one you are thinking of, so does your silence mean something?

Or is it the wooden mallet that is at odds with the rest that are steel tools?

    Colin.

    Colin,
nothing to be read into silence on the subject
As for the wooden mallet being the only all wooden tool, not what I was thinking.

Here's a wild guess; the saw set because it's used only to adjust a specific tool type and cannot be used for any other purpose. Everything else can be used on timber, tools or machinery.

Peter, is it because the Mallet is a hand made tool and all the rest are manufactured?
