Custom Bronze for Tansu
Jumping from another thread..
Hi Luban,
I'm currently sharing workshop space with my youngest son (28) he's making some nice stuff using she-oak and jarrah. What I like most is he's doing as much as possible with hand tools, he has accumulated a impressive collection of LN planes and puts them to pretty good use.
Anyway,
We did a bronze pour a few days back, and a friend was visiting with his video camera, so we have some video of the process. The project is to make cast bronze hardware for a tool tansu that my son is building, the video and blog is here...

Scroll down a bit and check out the progress on his tansu inspired toolbox. It's a testing ground for the main project coming up soon which is a stair tansu.
If he asks nicely I might make him a few saws..
Regards
Ray

Hi Luban,
Thanks for the comments, I'll post some pictures of finished bits, if we ever get that far of course.
The outside work area is looking like a mad chemist's laboratory at the moment as the search for the perfect patina continues. We've got green, blue, red, black, brown... good fun.
I'm going to have a go at casting a few bronze plane bodies, probably 5 1/2's that being my favourite size. (maybe after Christmas)
Regards
Ray

Hi Ray.
Finally had a chance to load the videos and photos over a coffee.
Great to see a backyard pour in action, I had the chance to stand around in a local bronze foundry (Elphinstone) and what I just saw on your sons blog was exactly that only downsized. R2D2 is very cool.
How happy was your boy (showing some serious talent in that blog btw) with those first handles? was the quality of finish up to his expectations?
Can't wait to see you cast a plane body or two.. are you planning on using a Stanley as a template or making up your own pattern?
Thanks for the mornings entertainment, beat the hell out of the local rag
If part 2 is published be sure to let us knowBest regards, Luban
