Thread: Decent Cheap F Clamps

I picked some of those up a while back. They had no price on so i took them up to the counter for a price check. When she said $3.87 I thought she had made a mistake so bought 6 more.
Good strong clamps, excellent value.

The TUVs are good clamps, I have 8 and I use them all the time for small things. Excellent value and work well with no slippage.

got a hap from crazy clarks ranging in price from $1 up to a whoping $3. they are also a hell of a lot better than i expected can puth heaps of pressure on them and they dont slip. the end dosent turn either witch is sompthing that rell y asnoyes the ??????? outa me

Bunnings

How long since you guys got these at Bunnies I often look through the clamps and haven't seen TUV. They have had some of the pistol grip style at the front bargan bins but havn't seen any with threads or TUV??

The smaller blue clamps on the far left of the picture are also TUV, these were purchased in 2006 when I started the house. The nice new orange ones were bought last week. I have noticed that not all bunnings have them and they are usually hidden away sitting in their bulk boxes amongst the other clamps and vices when they do have them. I have never seen them promoted, the promoted ones (which are always dearer) are always the real flimsy red and blue clamps, you know the ones where the steel bar bends because it is such light gauge.

When i found them they were in a cardboard box with no label or price sticker on the shelf. Have a scratch around in the clamp section.

Exactly how they are presented here in the west where I have seen them. I wonder if it is a consious decision that bunnings makes or whether that is just coincidence.

Maybe they have some kind of rating system and this fits into the "good quality at a great price so should be hidden" category. Anyone found anything else in this category?

Bunnings should wrap everything in brown paper and write Boys & Girls on it, quality at Bunnings is usually a lucky dip. Close inspection and knowing your brands is usually/always a must. Ok I'll dig in the boxes and see what I find.

If you do find them just check each one to make sure the screw clamping face meets up fairly centrally with the top clamping face. There were a couple that I picked up initially that I ended up leaving in the box, these were no where near as bad as the ones I looked at in one of the big woodwork stores a few months back though, their home brand ones were so bad the faces were lucky to meet up at all and they were still about three times the price

I just read the title and thought it was a case of "pick two words only".

Will have to investigate next time in the big green box.

Even if (or when) they start to slip, it's easy to drill holes so you can use a pin to prevent this. I just hate throwing anything away.

Thanks for the tip, Burnsy. Like other forumites I found none at big B Thornleigh, Gordon or Dural, but got lucky at Belrose (NSW). As described. they were in a nondescript cardboard box on a shelf near some Bessey F clamps. The ones I bought had a sticky label on the orange handle that said "Craftech". On the other side of the handle was printed the "TUV" mark, which, if my (rapidly failing) memory serves me well, is the mark/name of a German standards/testing authority.
