My first dovetails
Hello all,
Recently I acquired two sets of chisels (Bergs & Sorby) and have been pondering where to store them away from the humidity etc. I purchased a filing cabinet a while back that I turned on it's side and mounted my drill press on and I decided that I'd fill the spaces with drawers.
Considering this is only a workshop drawer I wasn't too worried about making a mess of my first dovetails and decided to give them a bash. The back of the drawers I made as through dovetails and the front as half-blind dovetails. The top draw is my first attempt and the second drawer down is my second attempt.
I'm quite proud of the improvement between attempts and got the hang of it pretty quickly. Just have to work on neatening everything up (sawing, when to/not to pare etc.).
Thanks for looking.
Regards,
Denim.

Always good to give it a go. And feeling great when things are getting better/easier to work with.

Nice job Denim. Just shows you what you can achieve if you can put aside any doubts on your ability to achieve something. Your 5/10s of the way towards completing a task when self confidence takes over.

Den - if you keep improving at this rate, you'll be an expert before you reach the bottom drawer...

Any tips for someone thinking about doing some half blind dovetails? I have only just recently made a box with a few dovetail joins and was looking at the half dovetails as the next challenge...

Simon, I'm only new to this dovetail thing so I'm not really the best person to give tips on making half-blind dovetails. I did refer to a few different websites but Derek's Making Better Dovetails guide is clear and concise and should help you on your way.
As a beginner I made sure my layout was clearly defined - especially the waste and most importantly I took my time.
Hope that helps.
Regards,
Denim.
