    Lappa will get over it.
AFAIK, no one's every died from their "blood boiling". Died from fever -- lots and lots of people. But "blood boiling" -- none.

To warm the blood and not boil I refer to the old Australian comedian, Roy Rene whose alter personality Mo MacCackie wrote 'F' upon a black board and asked his off-sider Stiffy what he saw. Stiffy replied 'K'. Mo shook his head, rubbed off the board and wrote 'F' again. OK, Stiffy what's that letter? 'K'. So Mo looks at Stiffy and "how come every time I write 'F' you (U)see(C) 'K'?

And here is a doorstop* incorrectly described as “rare”, “vintage”, “great” and “plane”

    Carter C71

Not a fan then. I would have thought router planes would be simple enough that they would be hard to get wrong. Again the price is up there. I did read in the "blood and gore" stuff on Stanley planes that the author claimed knowledge of someone in Australia using a #45 as a doorstop.

I just have a thing about Carter "products". I own a Carter 6 foreplane and a Carter 54 plough plane. Both of which have 99% blade left.... possibly due to every owner from new only trying them out once before throwing them back into their boxes in disgust...

    Sure, it's a nice plane, but $1000?

What you saw wasn’t an unrealistic asking price but what two bidders were willing to fight for... it finally went for $1009. About 4 times it’s actual value.

In an earlier post there was a butchered-made-in-England 78 that went for $125... and an original and complete 1911 era 78 that didn’t sell at $50.
    Go figure.

    It started at $40.
    Perfectly reasonable.
A couple of people really wanted that plane.

Seems quite a reasonable price if I was selling. Aslo, quite a reasonable price if someone else was buying.

Two bulls duking it out. Neither has much clue as to eBay bidding strategy (use a snipe program to set your limit and enter this in the last 2 or 3 seconds). They just drove up the price with their small increases.

Well, it is a nice Type 10, which is desirable, but not that desirable!

I went off to sharpen a chisel and the #8 was 'only' $700?! with an hour to go. As a plane it looked original and some hole in a collection may have needed filling BUT! when Veritas/PMV11 or Lie-Neilson are available.....

That is how I bid except that I do it manually. I don't have a mobile phone so an app is..... difficult. It does mean following some inhospitable hours at times if the object of desire is in a different time zone. The ironical thing is that if you read through the Ebay guide to bidding, they recommend this practice.

I suppose if it was the last type 11 Stanley bench plane you needed for a collection I could understand.
