    Default Ebay victory

Here is a plane which appeared recently on Ebay. The pictures were not that descriptive and it looked like a regular fillister. I thought it may be different (the description suggested as much but these can be unreliable) and having won the item it was indeed a dovetail plane. Rather unclean and full of gunk but in good nick. Here are some before and after pics.

The woodwork came up well and I still have work to do on the metal. I flattened the back of the blade (which is a big iron). The bevel is all over the place and needs work. I cleaned the nicker but haven't sharpened it yet. It is a user and not a show piece.

Couldn't help but taking a shaving from a soft wood. (Wasn't interested in tearout here just yet).

I used handcleaner (with no abrasive particles) and 0000 steel wool for the timber. Washed clean hot soapy water. Did this twice. Then turps and Boiled linseed oil 1:1. repeated until it seemed it was not soaking much more up.

Very happy with result. Cost?? $29

When I get a workshop I will put it to good use.

    Chris

EDIT: Just realised there is a show and tell just for this thing. Moderators feel free to shift it.

looks great..i've wanted to make one of these...about to order a couple of blades fron Ron hock....so make a left and right handed skewd blade version.. about half way through this clip he makes some tapered sliding dovetails.

Maybe check out Derek Cohens site. He made a tool similar to this.

Evolving a Dovetail Plane by Derek Cohen

Mine lacks a depth stop but can easily be added in the future.
