Very expensive tools
Browsing though the Becksvoort site, I found a set of 7 chisels for sale for $7953
http://www.chbecksvoort.com/coolstuff.html
(scroll about half way down).
These might be the most expensive tools I've ever seen. Anyone else seen any ridiculously expensive tools?
Hmm: better have a restriction or two. Must be currently available for sale (no museum pieces), and please quote price in Australian dollars. (Typing "$5875 in aud" into google will give the conversion.)Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

Yeah, I think they sell them at Bunnings as well.

Well if he can find someone rich enough and dumb enough to pay that for a set of chisels, good luck to him.
Probably be able to sell then to the same person who buys one of those $6,000 Norris replica planes (the name escapes me at the mo).

G'day,
Holy hell Batman! That guy is dreaming, wouldn't mind sending off an email to tell him what I think, no matter if they're custom made!
And I would think that the Japanese craftsman would be embaressed and angry if he knew someone was using his skills and crafsmanship and taking advantage of it to resell the chisels at a horrendously over inflated price!

The Japanese craftsman probably has a more expensive set. I have heard of special sets going for way more than a paltry (!) $7500.00.
I think they're made from pure unobtanium.

How would you feel if you dropped one on the concrete floor and chipped a great chunk out of the blade?
It only takes one drink to get me loaded. Trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or fourteenth.

Yeah, there are some ridiculously priced tools, mostly chisels and planes.
Real tradesmen/craftsmen dont buy them. They buy good solid blades that keep an edge, at an average price, and learn to live with them, and produce good work with them.
I believe that when the blade (chisel, plane) is of good average quality it can produce equal results to that of the high priced stuff. Its all about the user.
Cheers. Gary.

Zen, these have to be the buy of the century. They probably come with Kryptonite blades and were forged on the planet Vulcan. Being perfectly balanced, they are perfect for scraping the BBQ or for getting dog dung out of the tread of me boots, but ultimately, they'd be the perfect tool for chiseling money out of my superannuation fund. Thanks for the laugh.

I'm hunting down some chisels for Sinjin, and if I find anything rich, I'll chime in properly then.
I have seen more expensive. I think about US$7,000 for a single plane is the record so far.
Sure, it was a big plane, but it was only one.
Also found a set of 10 chisels for about $1,300 or so if anyone wants a bargain.
As it stands, I get do an honest 36mm slick for about $100 here. A little more than I thought, but for the size of the thing it's not too bad.
Finding some interesting stuff out there, seems HSS is the new trend for chisels here.

I was wondering arround Nara in late 2002 and passed a shop selling swords, knives, chisels, etc. Prices ranged from what I would call normal up to 230,000YEN for a set of 8 carving chisels (approx AUD$2600)
