    Default Saw Filing Practice Strips?

I had not heard of such a thing, but this is what has shown up on an Ebay listing. The seller says that initially he thought they might be samples:

I think there is a range of tooth pitches from 5ppi through to 10ppi. Seven in all. This is the listing coupled with a rather hefty, and to my mind, optimistic price (US$1000). As I had never heard of them before, they may have a rarity value. Desireability is a different matter:

However, there was another similar plate from Atkins. This was more specific in the etch and does indeed describe it as a practice strip:

This single plate is only US$129.99

It does not look as if the teeth have any fleam on them (even the finer crosscut profiles) so perhaps the intention is indeed to file away on these plates. I thought they would be perfect as a template for filing in new teeth or checking that future filings have not drifted too far from the original. A further thought is that they may have been used in the manual arts training schools.

Anybody seen these before? Oh, and please feel free to buy as I would have to grit my teeth and dig deep at even one tenth of these prices.

    Paul,

Jim Bode had one recently, also pricey IIRC. I've seen similar listed in the past. Could be coincidence or could be that somebody found a stash of these and is flogging them on the Intertubes.

Ok, it seems that these are about and I had just not noticed them before. The seller I have referenced bought a saw collection two or three years ago, which comprised hundreds of saws and he started selling them off in batches of ten. Initially he clearly had little idea about what he was selling but in the last six months or so he must have done a little research and has become more savvy. He still sells in groups of ten, but also individual saws too. I suspect he is testing the waters with these two listings.

Just as an aside his freight prices are amongst the best on Ebay.
