    Default Hand Adze from Italy

Whilst on our bus trip from Rome to Venice we had a coffee stop and the monthly market was on.
After the usual capachino and a leak I had look at what the ‘antique’ dealers had on offer.
This adze had 35euros but I thought why not, and pulled out my money.
I was thinking I’d like to offer him 30 but not speaking Italian didn’t bother.
The vendor waved his hands and spoke to me and as I didn’t understand picked up a sign from the front of his stall.
    40% discount so 21 or 22 euros.
About $33 Oz. Probably never use it but it was a nice find.
If you ever get to Venice visit the Naval Arsenal Museum they have ship models and hull half models from 1600 & 1700. Some rather large cannon from 1500 no idea how they cast and bored these back then. I’ll do a post with pics in the boats area when we get our pics sorted off my wife’s camera.

    Nice find.
My 'go to' handaxe came from a French street market stall.

It looks to me like the sort of tool you shape the seat on a Windsor chair or similar. Nice pick up even if you don't ever use it in anger.
